Numbers unknown. Sony committed to DLC support.

An unknown number of staff from PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale developer SuperBot Entertainment were laid off today, Sony has confirmed.

“SCEA can confirm that SuperBot Entertainment did make a reduction in their workforce today,” said the company in a satement. “The studio and SCEA remain committed to supporting PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale post launch, including developing the title’s forthcoming DLC releases in the coming months.”

PlayStation All-Stars launched for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita on November 20.

Thanks, IGN.

I thought Seth Killian was on the team but he’s actually with Sony so nevermind

Might’ve done better if when they announced it the initial roster reveal was filled with more characters people actually cared about.

plus the marketing for this game was pretty god damn awful, next time add classic characters and what not…

      • HassanJamal

I dont even think by next time will Activision allow Spyro and Crash to join it. Them bastard dont want us to have them.

        • Prodigy-X

Because they are waiting for PlayStation All-Star Battle Royale 2 which should be a lot better. I still enjoy PSABR they just needed more classic characters, modes, & better marketing.

          • Advent_Andaryu

In light of PSASBR sales, price cut after 2 months, the layoffs, Superbot’s unfathomable updates and overall response… I highly doubt there will even be a sequel.

            • Prodigy-X

There will be a sequel. Why are you acting ignorant. Just open your eyes and quit acting like SSB fanboy. Obvioulsy you didn’t look at my link that showed they are hiring for a sequel. It sold 500,000 in 2 months and its not even half a year. Hell infamous 1 only sold 300,000 in 4 months after it released. Chances are they are probably working on sequel. Get SSB out of your ass and just accept the fact that most likely it will reach 1 million within a year. If you don’t like the game then ignore it and move on about your life but don’t sit up here post ignorant comments just because you don’t like the game. I you like SSB then be glad that the fourth game is coming at the end of this year or early next year.

              • HeatPhoenix

                “quit acting like SSB fanboy”

All your credibility out of the window. Jeez, just because he said what he said doesn’t make him a fanboy of anything.

              • Advent_Andaryu

Whoa, calm down. You don’t know for a fact that there will be a sequel. I’ve seen that article, it came out just a few weeks after the game was released. A lot can change by then and given the layoffs and the low sales numbers, it doesn’t seem like there will be is all I said.

I actually really enjoy the game and play it often. It’s fun, but that doesn’t mean I agree with the decisions the developer has been making lately. I would actually love a sequel to be honest. Maybe they could even get a different development team to do one if all else fails with Superbot.

True needed more classic PS characters not more PS3 character :P
so i did not buy or supported it at all

    • Prodigy-X

Yall need to stop they were just hiring a few weeks ago they are just getting rid off of a few people and adding new ones. Most of yall don’t even know how much the game sold but judging by VgChartz it has sold over 500,000 copies yes it not SSB numbers but remember it is a new ip and the sequel is bound to do better if they bring in more old classic characters and better marketing. Next time guys don’t assume because 20 people layoff means the game did bad. You guys should be happy that they even sold 500,000 copies for a new ip that was called a ripoff even though they’re other games in its genre as well.

      Hiring for a sequel:
      http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/sony-is-already-hiring-for-playstation-all-stars-battle-royale-2/

      500,000 sales:

      Only 20 people laid off:

      • YangTerlupakan

Dont Trust VGchartz because the number is (always)wrong

        • Prodigy-X

No, they just under estimate a little but they are the closes until we hear what Sony says so for now all we know is it is over 500,000 which is pretty good for a new ip in 2 months.

          • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

Sony did said they’re happy with PSAS’s sales so who knows….

            • HeatPhoenix

They also said the Vita is in the low end of their sales projections. They’ll say a lot to make the investors happy.

              • Prodigy-X

                PS Vita + PS3 = 500,000 sold

The money goes to Superb Bot and Sony so it doesn’t matter which one sold worst they both together = 500,000 sold and on top of that the PS Vita version sold close to 120,000 which is on PS Vita most successful games.

                • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

And the fact that it has cross-buy which means you’re practically buying two games for the price of one if you have both hardware…

That number looks impressive to me…. How the game being determined a “Success” depends on the publisher and their goals…

          • HeatPhoenix

‘s not a new IP though.

            • Prodigy-X

OMG it is a new ip what are you talking about.

      • MrRobbyM

I’m glad there’ll be a sequel. I see a lot of potential for the series. I just hope they take the time to improve on…everything.

        • Prodigy-X

Me too, I mean I really feel like the sequel could nail it if they take their time, add more modes, more characters like Logan, Cloud, Crash, Spyro, Snake, & more. The marketing will be the hard part but I feel like they can pull it off .

  • Duc PC-QB

No surprise, since this game was a giga bomba

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003583595295 Shaun Huseman

Interesting. I figured the game wouldnt sell a ton, but I thought it would at least break even.

  • MrRobbyM

To be quite honest, the whole project seemed off to me from the start. If you ask me, Sony should have went with a different developer and as @twitter-342444043:disqus said, have a roster with characters that people actually cared about. Raiden, Dante and Kat seem kinda fun, but I just don’ care for anyone else. Not to mention the entire game seems rather bland. Can’t quite put my finger on it, I think it’s the lame stages.

    • xMCXx

      >implying Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Kratos and Sir Daniel Fortesque are boring.
      : P

      • MrRobbyM

I wasn’t implying anything close to that. Yeah, their games are fun, but I don’t think most people *love* the characters. I hate to compare this game to Smash Bros., but Smash is popular as it is because it’s got characters that people grew up with, Nintendo being very mainstream and all.

Imo, this game should of had more third party characters. Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Parasite Eve for a few good examples.

        • xMCXx

I know, I’m just joking. xD
But I aggree, Smash Bros. uses many characters from several franchises, not just one.
There should be way more characters.

  • LordKaiser

This is how Sony repay it’s devs?

    • Belenger

Sadly yes, studio Liverpool (Wipeout series), comes to mind.

  • KurisuMakise

Sad to hear about the layoffs =( But I guess they just didn’t need the extra people they hired to ramp up for the game. I’m sure all the core people that everyone knows are fine though. I’ll be jumping in just shy of Kat and Emmet’s release.

  • cid

kinda makes you think the whole lack of exclusive strategy of microsoft has a point. i mean there releasing games that are selling or at least making a profit.

  • PrinceHeir

unfortunately i have to wait for a major revision with all dlc’s included.

too many games, and the combat doesn’t look fun :(

  • http://gematsu.com/ Zero

Let’s all relax a bit in here please. I hope they do get to make a sequel, but we can’t be for sure until its officially announced.

  • abzdine

come on people please buy this game it is amazing!!
