Tecmo Koei has detailed the new modes and weapons in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus, its February 26-due port of the PlayStation 3 original, and announced pre-order bonuses for consumers who plan to purchase the title at GameStop.

New Modes

  • Ninja Race - After choosing a character, level, and costume, players can strategically choose to dash through the course or viciously kill as many enemies as possible to earn boosts and points. The mode’s Combo Kill counter increases as foes are dispatched in sequence—the higher the counter, the more damage is dealt as long as the gauge stays filled. Three special essences, exclusive to the Ninja Race mode, boost the player’s chance of a successful mission: Green Essence adds time to the clock, White Essence boosts the Combo Kill counter for added damage, and Purple Essence grants Ninja Speed.
  • Tag Missions - Players can switch between team members in real time as they try to complete challenges, with the other team member under AI control. With each fighter having different strengths and weaknesses, players can strategically tag back and forth when facing different opponents and situations by pressing down on the directional pad.

New Weapons

  • Emma’s Fang - A massive sword that can decimate foes with slow but powerful swings. Legendary tales say the fearsome blade grows even stronger when it becomes bloodied.
  • Falcon’s Talons - Worn on the hands and feet, these can quickly cut enemies to pieces with special attacks including the Izuna Drop and the sliding, leg-cutting Thunderous Attack.
  • Tonfas - Steel-reinforced hardwood which can be swung from both hands to brutally crush enemies with their special Heavenly Justice combo, provide another option for mass destruction.

GameStop pre-orders will include limited edition costumes for the three female ninja Ayane, Rachel, and Momiji.

I hope the NA version includes Japanese voices as did the PS3 one. Those English VAs make my ears bleed. Finally we’re able to experience Itagaki’s original gore on a Sony system.

I’m pretty sure it will NOT have the japanese voice track. Getting the import version gore or not.

Team NINJA always included dual audio on their games, NG3 was the first to not include it. I don’t know what Hayashi’s problem is

        • DrForbidden

Hayashi’s problem is that he’s a talentless hack.

        • PrinceHeir

          what do you mean O____O

          NG3 has dual audio :P

          • 浪黒雷 (ro-kurorai)

NGS+ on Vita only included English VAs despite running on a 4 Gig cart with plenty of space to spare ;)

      • 浪黒雷 (ro-kurorai)

I’m with you mate. The English VAs are obnoxious, had to return my NA copy of Sigma+ and buy the more expensive JP import the moment I heard Ayane speak. No JP audio means I’m going for the censored JP release and waiting for Sigma 2 to be released on PS+ as part of the IGC.

      • 浪黒雷 (ro-kurorai)

Chin on the EU PSB pretty much confirmed that it will include JP audio, just like the PS3 version. The US publisher is presumably the same, so we should be able to enjoy the full package.

Wait weren’t the Tonfas/Enma Fang/Falcon Talons already in NGS2? Or are they going from NGS+–>NGS2+

    • 浪黒雷 (ro-kurorai)

They are already included in NGS2, the wording is a little confusing as those were merely examples of different weapons posted on PSB.

  • Skerj

I just want the blood back!! I’m not a gore hound but purple mist looks silly as hell.

  • ShinAsura

Dam me for enjoying the heck out of this on the PS3, i’ll probably get it

and those aren’t new weapons, they’re just borrowing them from the other games

    • 浪黒雷 (ro-kurorai)

Errm, they are included in core NGS2 already. Those were just examples on PSB, but I must admit that Sal’s choice of words is a tad confusing.

  • DrForbidden

“GameStop pre-orders will include limited edition costumes for the three female ninja Ayane, Rachel, and Momiji.”

Yeah, fuck that shit, KT. Way to make me NOT want to buy this, douchebags. I already own NGS2. I would have considered buying this if the costumes came as standard unlockables in the game, but I probably won’t bother now.

    • PrinceHeir

such a shame it’s a pre order BS exclusive :(

      • DrForbidden

Yeah. I might have accepted them being pre-order exclusives, but certainly not RETAILER-SPECIFIC pre-order exclusives.

  • FeaturePreacher

Hooray for bringing the blood back.

  • PrinceHeir

    freaking badass :D

now i really want Momiji and Racheal in DOA5!!!!!!!!!

    • 浪黒雷 (ro-kurorai)

Wouldn’t work as fighting characters ;)

      • PrinceHeir

        not really :P

Momiji has a similar fighting style to Ryu humself.

Rachael can always the hard “knocker” fighter if you know what i mean :P
