Your preparation guide for the coming event.

Spike TV will air its annual Video Game Awards show at 9 p.m. Eastern / 6 p.m. Pacific time tonight. (Find your local time here.) This year’s show, the event’s tenth anniversary, will be hosted by Samuel L. Jackson,

If you’re without access to Spike TV, the show will also be streamed on Spike.comGameTrailers.com, and Xbox LIVE.

Confirmed new trailers for the show include:

  • Assassin’s Creed III (PS3, 360, Wii U, PC) – ‘The Tyranny of King Washington’ DLC debut trailer.
  • BioShock Infinite (PS3, 360, PC) – New gameplay will be shown.
  • Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 (PS3, 360, PC) – First gameplay will be shown.
  • Gears of War: Judgment (360) – The main enemy will be introduced.
  • Halo 4 (360) – New Spartan Ops campaign trailer.
  • The Last of Us (PS3) – A new female character will be introduced.
  • South Park: The Stick of Truth (PS3, 360, PC) – New gameplay will be show.
  • Tomb Raider (PS3, 360, PC)

That’s not all. According to USAToday, there are “five new games to be announced.” In the weeks leading up to the show, event planner Geoff Keighley teased a few bits to consider (there are some other people here, too):

  • Old-school announcement: “Have an amazing VGA announcement coming together for old-school gaming fans.” (ref)
  • Possible Cliff Bleszinski game (we’re probably shooting too far on this one): “Looking forward to seeing @therealcliffyb at VGAs this year.” (ref)
  • A reveal as “earth shattering” as The Last of Us: “We think so, yes.” (ref) “Late night world premiere screening with our VGA team in LA. One surprise piece had everyone raving.” (ref)
  • Eurogamer news editor is wowed: “I know this is really annoying (I hate when people do this), but I just got wind of a game being announced tomorrow/tonight and… Wow.” (ref)
  • Big announcement in first act: “2 hours until VGA 10! Big game announcement in the first act.” (ref)

Thanks, NeoGAF.

Be a producer and do it better, after this we talk. Hate is a easy way pal.

We have a reason to dislike the show. It’s just so artificial; starring celebrities who allegedly love video games, even though it’s so obvious they don’t.

Im looking forward to Bioshock Infinite,Tomb Raider and Lords of Shadow! I hope the new announcements are good. Too bad Beyond Two Souls isn’t being shown.

What i look forward to: the new trailers and little nominee acception vids.
What I’m not looking forward to: Everything else.

also why the hell am I hearing iJustine in the same sentence?

VGA was a great show. The celebrities participating, we must remember that we are talking about TV, and celebrities are part of this environment, and Samuel L Jackson was amazing host. Now if you refer to the nominees, that you don’t agree, ok, but it is not VGA choice, but the vote of journalists from almost all vehicles of famous media. The fact that there is disagreement does not makes the show bad, it is all about taste in what game is the best. Not all that we think to be the “best direction” for the show would work in an event of this size. I think all gamers should feel proud of this great gamer event, and congratulations Spike TV for this great job.

I think it was vastly improved. Much better than the previous shows.

what do you think if the next they let the public choose the winners by vote?

        • http://gematsu.com/ Zero

I think they actually had a fan vote last year or maybe the year before. It was all done via twitter or some silly set up.

I wouldn’t mind having like a few awards that have fan in the title. Like, for example — Fan Game of the Year award — or something like that.

Just a few though. I thought what made the show so much better this year was just that, the awards were more justified. The developers voted differently, and some lesser known games won because of it.

I also thought Sam Jackson was great this year. And South Park did a superb job opening up the show. Honestly, they did a better job focusing on the games this year. Last few years had “stars” on stage, talking for like 5 minutes or more about games, and they were not very believable. They cut that out this year and instead put in fun Sam Jackson moments, or did cool music pieces set to trailers.

Overall — This year was a step in the right direction in my opinion.
