Doesn’t it look very awkward to wear plate armor with a sword and leave from a train and go for a walk in a modern town? I mean she is the only one like that. And when she was climbing the ladder I expected a leap of faith (I thought I was watching an Assassin Creed video) …… sending a huge monster to the air .. shouldn’t be possible!!!!!!

I thought they changed the battle system… But nope, they’re still sticking to it but the roles functions in a different way…

Not only that, the town looks lifeless and generic…

  • new_tradition

lol, S-E probably won’t bother going after all the youtube vids if this was suppose to come out in 3 days anyways (don’t know if it made things strained between them and GT, but meh *shrugs*). I just hope we see something more at Jump Festa :3

Anyways, looks pretty good, but I’ve been lead to believe this specific footage is still some sort of early alpha build, so it should be much more polished and populated by the time it actually gets ready to be released. Wouldn’t be surprised if there were some additions or changes to the battle system.

I hope we get more info soon, though…

woohoo! the absolute top on my 2013 wanted games list!

don’t know whats all the fuss about her costume. squarenix could let lightning wear a kitchen apron or bunny suit for all i care, i’ll still buy it, and maybe thousands of lightning fans will too.

Well this does not look as good as FFXIII and XIII-2 trailers but it still looks nice and hopefully we will see a longer trailer sooner or later :P

    • Anime10121

Agreed, although I personally found Serah and Noel MUCH more interesting as a team than Light ever was.

*LOL* For a moment there, I thought I saw Altaïr running through the street… In any case, when looking at Lightning from behind, her outfit does seem kind of cool, too bad that the front looks like some distasteful dominatrix outfit…

Seriously though, with her bright pink hair, Lightning will only look good while wearing bright (but not too colorful) clothes. That said, I notice that changing the paradigm also causes Lightning’s outfit to change, which seems a whole lot like dresspheres. I wonder just how many paradigm/outfit can we unlock…

The frame-rate seems to be heavily impacted while traveling through towns, although it’s very smooth during battle. I suppose the Crystal Tools really does not cope well with having multiple characters in open areas after all… Perhaps it’s about time Square needs to realize that soft V-sync is better than having the whole screen juddered due to the significant drop in frame-rate…

Anyway, I’ll probably need to see more of it first before considering anything.

By the way, those gaudy shades *LOL*
I can just imagine Lightning calling out Eidolons in P4 style…*LOL*

Crystal tools is not a good engine. Even developers at Square-Enix have come out and discussed it’s poor performance issues. Yoshi P, (Lead developer of XIV) has gone on record about the low amount of characters on screen at once. (Which you mentioned.)

Yoshi said that around 40 ish characters was the cap for the engine, which is obviously not very good. If you look at 13-2, they were able to improve some of these issues, but the game took hits in other areas. The FPS would dip in specific spots, so much so that it was very noticeable. The overall visuals were also a bit worse than 13. They were able to have more polygons on screen, but with less details visually, etc. (They manged to hide some of this by separating zones, and reusing some areas more than once.)

I played the original XIV for about a year. Crystal tools, and it’s overall poor performance was on full display in XIV. I didn’t have a ton of issues for the most part, but my hardware was way above the recommended specs. There was some settings you could tweak, but doing so was typically useless. You either got little improvement, or the game took a nosedive. And even then, the game had many performance issues regardless of the hardware you were using.

Overall, Crystal Tools is actually one of the reasons the JPN branch has struggled so mightily this generation. It turned out to be a huge bust for Square-Enix, yet another thing that cost them lots of money.

If I had to guess, I wouldn’t be surprised if LR was running on the modified crystal tools engine. It probably won’t be that much better. I just think SE wants to try and get a bit more out of it, before they likely scrap it. (LR is probably the final CT game.)

Yes, that means I think they realized Versus couldn’t run on CT a long time ago. I’d guess probably sometime in 2009. =/

(They aren’t alone with engine troubles. Kojima had to make the new fox engine for his games. Which explains why he hasn’t released much on consoles since MGS 4.)

      • Bloodios

You know, I once thought that the reason these sequels don’t look as good as the original is because Square Enix can’t afford to have people spending weeks working on a rock. Really, the engine requires a lot of efforts just to look good, and the fact that it doesn’t scale well still surprises that it hasn’t been scrapped in favor of a better engine. Even if the first game was powered by the UE3, I bet it will still be unparalleled on the PS3 if it had the same amount efforts that were put into it (perhaps then, the Xbox 360 version wouldn’t be as crappy as it turned out.

“You should know who I am.”

    Woah, Light. Conceited much?

    • new_tradition

That’s what I thought too, but I think we’re supposed to focus on the second part of “what” she is. Which, truthfully, I’m trying to understand.

  • Barrit

I wonder how long before those glasses appear on the Square store lol.

  • Derpazu

    Looks like alpha footage.

    Lightning is still ridiculously hot.

  • xMCXx

    I never asked for this….
    No one did.

    • new_tradition

*raises hand* Actually I did. I didn’t ask for FFXIII-2, but after playing it, if they didn’t finish up the story they created, I would’ve been pissed. Plus it made me miss Lightning, so a finale game from her POV is fine by me xD

Looks good. We need more action in JRPGs, and FF13-2 was a huge improvement on FF13 (which was a pile of shit).

  • paperclichepixel

Hmmm, this trailer has an Assassin’s Creed feel to it.

    • paperclichepixel

The end with the shades, also felt like MG Rising.
      I wanna see more.

  • KurisuMakise

Surprised Kazzirin hasn’t commented or perhaps there’s just too many comments to see him. Anyway, cautiously optimistic about this. Truthfully I just like Lightning =( New costume animates well but I don’t like it that much. Lastly, still love her english voice, confidence! *_*

  • DragonSix

Well, this is a proof this game isn’t taking any production money away from FF14 and Versus.

It’s good news, they actually are keeping the main teams working on what matters. FF13 is finally getting the attention it deserves: not much.

  • Charlie

I think people are being too harsh and sudden in their opinions about LR. You watched a trailer that was under 2 minutes in length and you’re already forming copious amounts of hate. At least wait for an in-depth gameplay video.

Wasn’t the game confirmed to be an action RPG? .-.
