First artwork of the next Hitman game
In development at Square Enix's new Montreal studio.

The IO Interactive-developed Hitman: Absolution may have just launched, but Square Enix’s newly opened Montreal studio is already underway on the next entry in the stealth assassin franchise.

The studio posted the first concept art of their upcoming Hitman game a bit earlier this month, but the internet only just caught wind of it today, thanks to an eagle-eyed NeoGAF user.

A release date for Square Enix Montreal’s Hitman has not been set.

    OPM has a few more details on this new Hitman title.

    “Hitman: Absolution director Tore Blystad has shed a little light on the next installment for the franchise. Talking about how 47′s next adventure is being developed by Square Enix Montreal instead of IO, Blystad said, “It’s the first time you could say Hitman has gone out of the house”. 

    “It’s like with Treyarch and Infinity Ward,” says Blystad. “You have an IP that has been developed. They will feed off each other, as well as somethings that stand out. I think with these big franchises it takes a long time to develop just one game. If you can, work a little bit in parallel at least and help each other out”.
