Square Enix has released an all-new, six-minute CG trailer for Final Fantasy XIV.

The clip, dubbed “End of an Era,” shows the Eorzean Alliance and Garlean Empire clash in battle “in a bid to deliver the realm from certain destruction.” The saga will continue in the MMORPG’s upcoming ‘A Realm Reborn’ update.

Watch the trailer below.

Additionally, you can find the latest producer Q&A here. A beta test will begin at the end of January or early February. Expect a new roadmap towards the end of November or early December.

I was doing a pretty good job holding back my tears… until I saw that smile.

Best FF CG I’ve ever seen. All of FFXIII’s CG are nothing compared to this 5 minutes CG and I’m saying this as a FFXIII fanboy.

    • rockman29

You weren’t kidding either, reminded me why I like FF. Except none of that is in XIII…

      • Sovereign Gale

I personally LOVED the CG for the invasion of Eden later in FFXIII, and the opening to XIII-2 blew me away. I’ve got to agree that this completely surpasses them, though.

      • Kazziyan

? lol if we’re talking gameplay, sure but world and setting in terms of a timeline is not anything new.

I there’s anything SE knows how to do, it’s making really freakin’ cool and emotional cutscenes. I definitely want to give A Realm Reborn a chance.

This was pretty emotional for someone that played the game for about a year. To see all the familiar characters fight a losing battle. The plan at the end failed, they were unable to even remotely withstand the might of the empire.

I’m guessing the old man sent the heroes in the cinematic through time at the end. Live to fight another day. I really hope they have lots of new stuff, new changes, ready when 2.0 finally launches. I’d love to get back into the game again, just for the story alone.

I was reading through the latest letter from the producer. This response caught my eye.

Q24: Once the PvP content is implemented, will we be able to fight Yoshi-P?

A24: There are multiple people from the development team who put a lot of thought into the PvP system and we currently do have plans to implement a system where players will be able to fight against the development team. As an additional note, we have plans for players to be able to fight Wada for an event!

We get to fight President Wada! I think that’s pretty awesome. =D

The Q&A? It was linked above in the article.

Here is the link to the specific question. - http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/57667-Letter-from-the-Producer-LIVE-Part-IV-Q-A-Updates?p=886273&viewfull=1#post886273

        Hope that helps. =)

  • Gaara D.Dragon

    That was ridiculously, jaw-droppingly impressive.

  • KingOptimusOrigins111

I hope Sony works out a deal and give us PlayStation Plus Subscribers a 1 hour trial to test.

  • Locksus

The trailer looked good, graphically, and sounded even better. I’m too lazy to do my research but this is Uematsu’s music, right? Correct me if I’m wrong.

I was even briefly excited for this but then I recalled that it has a monthly subscription.

    • new_tradition

Last I recall, Nobuo is doing the music in this game, so yay for that.

The singer in this vid sounds so familiar though. Can’t put my finger on it…

      • Kazziyan

I wish Hamauzu was on the OST. :(

But oh well, pretty good trailer.

        • new_tradition

I love Hamauzu too, but I imagine he might be busy with Lightning Returns’ OST

          • Kazziyan

            Probably.

His piano works would compliment it well. X’s OST was great when they worked together.

      • Kite L

nobuo uematsu asked susan calloway to sing the english lyrics. She’s worked with him on previous songs, like suteki da ne. There’s a live concert recording of her and the tokyo orchestra performing the song (title is “Answers”) during on of their game music tours.

  • new_tradition

Epic. As expected from CG works by S-E. I don’t think anyone is surprised by that.

I am confused about something. By the time this hits PS3, will the game content completely remove what PC gamers played through when FFXIV first came out? Like, the scene looks like stuff happened to get to that point. Stuff that I never got a chance to play through, you know? Or am I wrong?

Anyways, I’m one to talk. I’m not even sure if I wanna buy it yet. It looks awesome, but I’m not dedicated enough to buy a subscription when my gaming habits are sporadic within the month, let alone a year xD

    • Solomon_Kano

Yea, the PS3 version will start with A Realm Reborn. No 1.0 stuff.

    • YangTerlupakan

u maybe forget FF XIII come with beta code for version 1.0

      • new_tradition

        Yeah, but that was just for PC, right? I can only play on my PS3. And anyways, after the S-E Members site got revamped, that code is probably lost forever ;A;

        • http://gematsu.com/ Zero

From what I understand I’m pretty sure that code is still going to work. I wouldn’t throw it away. They might use it to allow users to participate in the PS3 beta, or something like that.

I’ll be keeping up with that information, if something happens, I’ll make sure Sal posts about it on Gematsu. =)

(Edit : Even though I played 14 on PC for about a year, I still have the code from my PS3 copy of FF13.)

        • YangTerlupakan

          actually i dont know
but i think is for ps3 version, because i think put code for pc in ps3 game is wrong marketing imo

          i found this :
          http://gematsu.com/2009/11/ffxiii-to-include-ffxiv-beta-code-hopes-summon-chocobos-in-leaked-jump-scans
          http://gematsu.com/2009/11/no-final-fantasy-xiv-beta-code-with-final-fantasy-xiii

        • YangTerlupakan

actually i believe every special code (beta or whatever) for MMO have experied date

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=517908162 David Norman

That code was for the PS3 beta that never happened. The code is still valid and people who registered it will be invited to the ARR beta on PS3.

I haven’t even played FFXIV and I got emotional during this T^T
Really amazing ending~ I’ll be looking into a realm reborn now.

  • Bloodios

As someone who had never played Final Fantasy XIV, I would like someone to somewhat clarify how exactly does the story in A Realm Reborn work? Is it a revised retelling of the original story, or does it just skip that altogether and continue with its own story? I’m a little concerned about this because I’m not sure I’ll be able to fully grasp the plot when I go and pick up the PS3 version of the game…

    • Luna Kazemaru

This video shows the last events of FF14 the world is about to end the Eorzean Alliance and Garlean Empire go into a all war to take control of the fate of the world as you can nothing could stop bahumt and the end. Lou (the old) man uses is powers to send the 12 and the players 5 years into the future (a realm reborn) this is where the new game takes place its the same world but much of the land and cities has changed its basically starting back up where 1.0 left off for the most part.

      • Bloodios

I see… so basically if there was any special and memorable event from the first game, I wouldn’t be able to experience it in A Realm Reborn then… perhaps I should consider upgrading my desktop and purchase the original game at some point in the distant future…

          @Bloodios:disqus  & @new_tradition:disqus

You can look up and watch most of the story events from XIV version 1.0 on youtube. The story stuff wasn’t to bad, but you really aren’t missing out on much.

If you have any questions about the story in 1.0, feel free to ask me. I finished the story missions and remember most of the details.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=517908162 David Norman

It is no longer possible to buy or play the original game, It is over and gone for good.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=517908162 David Norman

It is a new story this video is the end of the old story,

  • Lele Mett

Oh SE. You guys are so amaazing. However…you could have put a little gameplay in there.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=517908162 David Norman

There are already multiple gameplay trailers.

      • Lele Mett

I know its just…I like to see a little it of gameplay in my trailers. Thats all.

The White Mage use Cure on Warrior, then the Warrior surge forward unleashing Steel Cyclone while the Paladin use Spirit Within.

This was an in-game cinematic during the final minutes of FF XIV 1.0. It’s not really a trailer.

Has anyone seen my jaw? it dropped somewhere here on the forum.

    • paperclichepixel

I see your jaw, and raze mine to.

  • http://twitter.com/Renzouri Lee

    Ah, memories.

I played FFXIV from day one (didn’t take advantage of my closed beta invite) and ended playing it after a year. My reason for quitting was that my game progress moved very slowly, (this was during the era when SE was tinkering with the recipes and no ward search function) and I didn’t like the fact that FFXIV was party-centric.

After seeing this video and hearing what SE has been doing all this time, I’m all for giving FFXIV one more chance once ARR gets released.

  • PrinceHeir

im excited what new things they’ll bring to the world of FFXIV :D
