Play as one of Devil May Cry's "most wanted" characters.

Capcom has announced the first downloadable add-on for DmC Devil May Cry.

‘Vergil’s Downfall’ will tell the untold tale of Dante’s twin brother Vergil. It will contain “hours” of new gameplay, four difficulty levels, and the opportunity to play as Vergil, who will have his own storyline, weapons, combos, enemies and locations. The content will be made available “shortly after launch” for $8.99 / €8.99 / £7.29 / 720 Microsoft Points, or free if you pre-order from GameStop (U.S.) or EB Games (Canada).

DmC Devil May Cry is due for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on January 15, 2013. Watch the trailer for the ‘Vergil’s Downfall’ add-on below.

(Note: Capcom has said this DLC is not on the disc.)

WHAT !? Another game with DLC before the game comes out….. thanks Capcom.

  • http://twitter.com/Alos88 Alos88

That’s a pretty big thing for a preorder bonus.

    • MrRobbyM

Which leaves me asking why it’s not included in the game to begin with. I was looking forward to the game, and even considering pre-ordering it just to show my support but I can’t support this nonsense. Now I’ll just wait till it goes down in price or a complete edition of some sort is released at a budgeted price. Maybe even, *dun dun dun* “used”.

There are other games releasing around that time that deserve my support anyways.

      • delon33

This isn’t day one DLC. If you have read the CU blog, they said that this DLC does not have a finalized date yet, meaning it isn’t day 1 dlc. So it’s not possible to include in the game if it’s not finished yet.

  • LordKaiser

Well it’s Capcom what can you guys expect ? It won’t surprise me that the DLC It’s on the disc.

    • Luna Kazemaru

already said below the video its not.

      • LordKaiser

The video gives me a error. I’ll try later on PC.

        • Luna Kazemaru

Its in the PR email to I think.

Edit: Yeah its in Capcom EU’s email.

*insert hateful comment about calling betrayal*

    ……………..*sigh*

What bothers me about this is that — well, okay, I understand publishers want to make more money — it’s business, I can understand that. But if this were the PS2 / Xbox / GC generation, these day-one / near day-one DLCs would on the disc and accessible to all (or at least unlockable or something).

    I don’t know. It’s just disappointing.

    • DarthBrian

Yup. In fact I believe Vergil was an unlockable in DMC3SE IIRC.

      • Luna Kazemaru

Yeah after you had to but the game over.

    • Skerj

They could at least have the decency to announce the damn thing after the game comes out. That’d cut down a bit of hate and this game definitely doesn’t need anymore of that. At least in this case it looks like they’re doing it to boost preorders.

    • Dean Winchester

This has become fairly common place this gen especially from capcom.
Like online passes though, I do not see why you are complaining as they are offering a way for you to get the content for free by preordering the game.

I preorder 99% of my games and always buy new so this is a DLC freebie for me.

The only people left to moan about this now are people who want to buy used or hate gamestop and limit their own purchasing options out of some inflated sense of pride and self importance.

Truthfully if one doesnt get this content for free it is b/c they never planned to purchase the game in the first place or they simply just need to find a reason to complain.

“Truthfully if one doesnt get this content for free it is b/c they never planned to purchase the game in the first place or they simply just need to find a reason to complain.”

Actually, there are other reasons one might not get it free. Someone could first discover the game sometime after release. Someone could be considering it, but wants to hear others’ opinions (meaning, from those who’ve played it / reviews). And then there are a lot of people who just don’t purchase the game day one because they’re waiting for a better deal and have the patience to wait for it.

“The only people left to moan about this now are people who want to buy used or hate gamestop and limit their own purchasing options out of some inflated sense of pride and self importance.”

You’re awfully negative. All the time.

        • Luna Kazemaru

No offense you can still put 5 or 10 bucks down on the game gamestop doesn’t force you to pay the rest on release. Pre-order then hear other peoples opinions or for your friends who have no issue getting it if you don’t like it you can always get your money back and if you do you still got the pre-order since you had the game on hold for pre-order. Its how got ghost recon: FS dlc and pass and I didn’t even fully pay for that game to about two weeks after.

          • Dean Winchester

            ^THIS!

I preordered Hitman Absolution months ago and got the Sniper Challenge DLC and played the living crap out of it until it was mastered.

I cancelled my preorder b/c I am putting Hitman on my Xmas list and hoping someone else snags it for me. Guess what? I still have my preorder DLC sniper challenge map and can play it whenever I want. This DLC will be no different in the fact that you will have the code upon preordering and can download it as soon as its available whether you have the full game or not. You likely wont be able to play the DLC until you have the game but thats neither here nor there.

            • KurisuMakise

Dean and I may have differing opinions on certain things but in terms of DmC and this pre-order issue, I share his opinion on this one. Yes, this is capitalism and all that jazz but Capcom and others do need to get people excited to buy Day 1. It’s not like last gen, so I feel that’s an unfair comparison. For one thing games were cheaper last gen so people definitely got out there for pre-order or Day 1. Another thing, this type of day 1 stuff existed in a different form last gen. For example, pre-ordering The Legend of Zelda, Wind Waker on GC netting you Ocarina of Time Master Quest.

        • Dean Winchester

So being tired of the whining this gen and voicing my distaste is somehow MORE negative than the whining itself?

          Got it.

          Pot, meet kettle.

    • MosquitoLemon

Well, two things – in the PS2/Xbox/GC generation, they didn’t have the infrastructure to inundate people with DLC. Today, it’s almost a requirement to have your console linked to the internet, so they’re going to take advantage of that.
The second thing is that they had to find a way to make revenue from used game sales. For now it’s like, ‘aww, 10 bucks for whatever’, but they’re basically betting on the idea that someone who picks the game up later is going to enjoy it so much that they’ll pay an extra 10 for more content. Honestly I think that’s a lot more fair than these people trying to make selling used games illegal (and speaks to their confidence in the product).

      2 things

      1- This is the Capitalism
2- It is not only Capcom

  • Niyari

ugh, i hate how gamestop always gets the best pre-order bonuses.

    • gold163

the reason why is because they strike deals with the publishers and developers. It’s how Gamestop stays in business. Notice how they’re always trying to push pre-orders on every one of their customers? It’s because their employees are required to meet pre-order quotas. If you don’t sell a certain number of GTAV copies before the end of the week, you’re fired.

The reason why they can get away with this is because people buy the pre-order bonuses thinking they’re losing out if they don’t get it from Gamestop. Thus, the vicious cycle repeats.

  • Mar Mar

When you read the title it sounds like the game is already out but seriously why Capcom is announcing a DLC for a game that haven’t came out yet? I don’t understand it is just a DLC like the others and the best part, they say it is not on the disc.

  • Juuu

I’d actually rather take a delay and put it in the game proper as post-game content instead, and I’m sure others would agree. Vergil’s my favorite character, so this REALLY interests me, but I’m probably not gonna pre-order just because it releases in a bad month for me. :/ I was planning on getting it after launch. So that’s…sort of a bum out. It sounds like a lot of content for 9 dollars, sure, but still…

  • new_tradition

I’m still gonna wait on getting DmC, but I love Vergil, so I know I’ll grab this DLC when I can.

Though I hope this is the only story centric dlc they release. I hate not having a full story :/

  • DragonSix

They didn’t butcher Vergil as much as Dante, ergo they use him as a pre-order insentive and has paid DLC…

Cacpcom, always on top of things I see.

  • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

Ah… Day one DLC… Capcom, you officially in the “companies who release Day One DLC” list..

(Note: Capcom has said this DLC is not on the disc.)
I’m taking this with a grain of salt since this is Capcom we’re talking about…

    • delon33

This isn’t day 1 DLC. There is no set date for the DLC.

      • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

Not exactly day 1 but close….

Capcom has annouced DLC before the game even releases…

  • Gigus

On a story related note, what does this DLC tell us about the story?  Is this a prequel or epilogue?  Don’t tell me they’re just gonna do something similar that they did in DMC3?  Either Vergil betrays Dante or he sacrifices himself and stays in hell.  Poor Vergil, hes gonna end up being Mundus’s bitch again XD

  • EspadaKiller

It looks really good, but SMH at Capcom. They are really taking advantage of their customers big time. Lost all respect for them, seriously.

    • new_tradition

       SMH?

      • EspadaKiller

        It means Shake my head

        • new_tradition

Lol, oh whoa, I phail. I’m so out of touch with acronyms xD

  • KingOptimusOrigins111

Capcom always has DLC ready for every game they are about to release.

Vergil Style Better Than Dante :)

  • Kobracon

Because I love DMC, I’m gonna give this game the benefit of the doubt. But if it indeed sucks, DMC is dead to me.

*sees ‘free if you pre-order from GameStop (U.S.) or EB Games (Canada)’*

**** YOU, CAPCOM! Give Asia some love goddammit. We have gameshops……
