Destiny, Bungie and Activision‘s upcoming original IP, aims to “create a universe as deep, tangible, and relatable as that of the Star Wars franchise,” according to leaked documents obtained by IGN and confirmed by Bungie.
The game’s story begins seven hundred years from present day in the Last City on Earth, in a solar system “littered with the ruins of man’s golden age.” An massive alien ship of unknown origin known as “The Traveler” hangs over and protects Earth “like a second Moon.” But from “the edge of the universe,” strange alien creatures determined to overtake Earth “creep in.” Players take on the role of a young ‘knight’ tasked with discovering the origin of, and ultimately overcoming, their new alien foes.
Bungie is aiming to make the game “fun and accessible to all,” which could mean a universe open to a range of different ages.
“Destiny is designed for your inner seven year old. We want to make it feel like a mythic adventure,” says Bungie co-founder Jason Jones in the document.
Gameplay in Destiny is “social at its core,” and offers “a world to explore with friends, both old and new.” A logo for the game is also included in the document. It shows PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 logos, and the URL Destiny.com, which is currently password-protected.
When contacted by IGN, Bungie issued the following response: “We’re not quite ready to take the wraps off our next universe, but in light of recent events we thought we’d give fans something a little more official over at Bungie.net. Feel free to drop by and say hello! There’s much more to come.”
Over at Bungie.net, community manager David Dague posted a blog update titled, “Well, that just happened… again,” referencing Destiny‘s numerous leaks, and a new piece of concept art for the game. Bungie also provided IGN with several pieces of concept art not included in the document they obtained.
