Nintendo of Japan has announced Wii U‘s Japanese release date and offerings.
The system will be made available on December 8 in two models:
Wii U Basic Set – 26,250 yen (approx. $338 USD)
- White Wii U System with 8GB of flash memory
- Wii U GamePad
- Wii U AC Adaptor
- Wii U GamePad AC Adaptor
- HDMI Cable
Wii U Premium Set – 31,500 yen (approx. $406 USD)
- Black Wii U System with 32GB of flash memory
- Wii U GamePad
- Wii U AC Adaptor
- Wii U GamePad AC Adaptor
- HDMI Cable
- Nintendo Network Premium
- Wii U Vertical Stand
- Wii U GamePad Charging Stand
- Wii U GamePad Play Stand
Nintendo Network Premium, as mentioned above, is not to be compared to Xbox LIVE Gold or PlayStation Plus. It will give back consumers 10 percent of points on Nintendo download and product sales, which can be used toward future purchases. Amass 500 points, and you can redeem it for credit.
Nintendo has also priced its lineup of accessories for the system:
- Wii U Pro Controller – 5,040 yen (approx. $65 USD)
- Wii Remote Plus – 3,800 yen (approx. $49 USD)
- Nun-chuck – 1,800 yen (approx. $23 USD)
- Wii U Vertical Stand – 315 yen (approx. $4 USD)
- Wii U GamePad Stand Set – 1,890 yen (approx. $24 USD)
- Wii U GamePad – 13,440 yen (approx. $173)
New Super Mario Bros. U and Nintendo Land will be available at launch. They’ll cost 5,985 and 4,935 yen, respectively.
Here are a few additional details:
- 2GB of RAM: 1GB used for games, 1GB used for the operating system.
- Game discs are up to 25GB and stream up to 22.5MB per second.
- Consumes up to 75 watts of electricity at max, 45 watts on average.
- You can import your Wii’s Virtual Console games onto Wii U.
