Everyone is excited about Versus XIII but it will be another mediocre game, all of you are gonna be dissapointed because all of the hype.
    Mark my words.

    • Kurai Warrior

Well if this is the case then it will be the final nail in the coffin for me and SE, I won’t every give them my money again. Well unless by some miracle they turn things around and become the great company they once were, but if they somehow mess up Versus XIII, then I don’t see that happening for a really long time.

      • Nekmex

Square is only focusing on iOS and android games, it broke my heart when they announced TWEWY for iOS, that’s why i don’t care anymore about them, i am gonna get RAITONINGU RETURNS when the game is cheap, obviously, the ost will be a first day pirate.

        • xMCXx

          Why the OST?
          Uematsu isn’t even there, anymore…

          • Nekmex

            There are some cool tracks

    • http://gematsu.com/ Zero

      I really hope not.

    • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

If nomura has free reign it will be good,I have never disliked a game hes made.

    • xMCXx

It will be different from XIII and XIII-2, so it will probably not mediocre.

      • Nekmex

So?, even if it’s different that doesn’t imply it’s gonna be good

        • xMCXx

Yeah, everything that’s not XIII and XIII-2 is instantly better in my book.

    • Malcolm Reynolds

Is there a single upcoming game that you are excited about?

Judging by your commenting pattern I’m gonna go out on a limb and say no.

  • Kurai Warrior

It’s baffling to me that a game that was announced 5 days ago already has a percentage of completion while a game that was announced 6 years ago still doesn’t have one.

I am so convinced SE hates Versus fans.

    • Nekmex

They don’t hate them, they just don’t care, Versus XIII could have been released years ago, but they will keep releasing XIII sequels, also

      >2012
      >caring about Square Enix

      They are worse than Capcom

    • Rezar

You might be on to something. Versus XIII was announced back in 2006 right? To me this is becoming Square Enix’s version of Duke Nukem Forever and Daikatana which sucks.

    • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

Well versus is pretty far along, its just square wont let us see  because they suck

  • rockman29

Very nice new look on the forum, good work Sal and guys.

Also nice top ten list on the side, very smart.

Not very happy about the attack on open commenting, Sal, and moderators, are undertaking. It’s one thing to disagree. It’s another thing to use your authority on the site to muzzle fans of your site. The changes in measures and policies are too fast, too hostile, incongruent with the userbase.

Let’s be honest with the problem: it has nothing to do with the website, and it has nothing to do with the users, and it has nothing to do with Sal and co. doing a great job on the site. What’s wrong is Square-Enix’s treatment of fans awaiting an anticipated game. If you guys are going to get angry about people being frustrated for something they are expecting… well… that’s what happens all the time so don’t be so surprised or feel you have to change how others feel. Execution on SE’s part is the only thing going to fix this. Stop trying to intervene with something that needs no intervention. On Versus: don’t want to know, and don’t care until there is real news about it.

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes has got me excited for videogames like not many others in a while. Ground Zeroes makes me excited like Half-Life 2 (look at those phyics!) or GT5 (those cars so real dood!) or Warcraft III (3D Warcraft?!) did before their releases. My passion in games is thanks to studios like KojiPro.

Also I really like Vita’s return to platforming for Playstation with Tearaway. I like LBP2 A LOT, BUT, I still like Spyro and Crash and Jak even more. And Tearaway looks like more of the real 3D studio designed platforming I want to play on my Vita. Great stuff!

    • http://gematsu.com/ Zero

I must admit, I’m disappointed you feel that way. If you go and view the comments we have a serious problem with, I think you would see why we did have to intervene.

The guidelines have been live for quite sometime now. When we first created them, it was in hopes of stopping disrespectful comments, the comments where people attack each other.

I know that people can have a discussion without having to resort to personal attacks. Calling people offensive names, cussing them out, being disrespectful. These types of comments are rude and offensive, and they just aren’t acceptable.

Not just on this website, most of the internet finds these types of comments unacceptable. When I see people posting comments like this, it bothers me, it makes me not want to read or post anymore. (Does anyone enjoy reading rude/disrespectful comments?)

I know for a fact, people can disagree or think differently and still hold a respectful conversation. That is really all we are asking for.

In short, we understand that people are angry with Square-Enix. I wouldn’t say I’m all too happy with them either. That doesn’t mean its okay to express that anger by attacking others in the comments.

      • rockman29

Did I defend calling people names?

You guys are turning this into a users versus users versus administrators situation. Obviously Sal and you moderators are diehard Final Fantasy fans with your own strong opinions. But you guys won’t let other people have strong opinions which disagree. And that’s not a good thing, no matter how you spin it.

I wasn’t defending calling people names. I was defending people’s right to say what they want.

If they aren’t flaming anyone, what’s the big deal if they have a strong opinion? First world problems dude, there’s worse things in life.

You want to take what I post in a derogatory fashion fine. You want to say I was defending calling people names, whatever to you guys. You obviously aren’t interested in user input anymore. And I frankly don’t like it, and I might have to find another place to visit because of it.

@gematsu-df83971673de5c8e71ca1e2645718dad:disqus : Some degree of moderation is always necessary. I’m not disagreeing. I’ve been on much better forums, and much worse. But the attitude and stance you guys are taking towards comments now?

Why do my comments have to be ‘approved’? What’s wrong with this site now? I can’t express what I think without being approved? We’re not your lab rats, and it’s not good treatment of users. I am seriously considering stopping to come to this site since the moderators and owners are more interested in ‘keeping things on topic’ than knowing what their users want to see. That’s just sad, and an excuse to silence people who disagree with the moderators and owners very pro-SE opinions.

        • http://gematsu.com/ Zero

I didn’t mean to insinuate that you defend these types of comments. Sorry about that.I think we have confusion here. This is not me trying to argue with you about anything, this is me trying to explain to you what has been happening, and what the moderation team and I are trying to do about it.

We are on the same side here. I believe you want what is best for this website, so do I.

We don’t have a problem with things going off topic, so long as they don’t turn the discussion into a flame fest. We decided a few weeks ago- Until the community proves they can go off topic without turning the discussion into a flame war thing, we have no choice but to be strict about it.

We didn’t just decide to do this out of the blue, we received complaints from the community. We listen to every single reader/poster on Gematsu. We are trying to balance things out, make commenting enjoyable for everyone.

For example – Lots of people complained about every Final Fantasy article turning into Versus discussion. Sure, we have a handful of folks who are passionate about that game, they want to discuss it often. We also have a handful of folks that don’t enjoy seeing it brought up in every FF article. So, what do we do? We have been trying to find the right way to balance it out. The final goal = We want to appease both sides.

Last few FF articles, the Versus discussion has been leading into flaming, trolling, rude comments, etc. Those types of comments take over the discussion. This is what we don’t want to happen with any off topic discussion.

This is the good & bad news- Trying to balance both sides has failed so far. We figured that kindly asking people to take Versus conversation to the open forum would be fine. Thing is, It hasn’t really helped stop the ugly flame comments from being posted. This idea is a bust pretty much, we will go back to the drawing board and try something else.

We do want to read what you and other users have to say about moderation. If you have something to suggest, feel free to do so. When the comment article I worked on typing goes up, you will see that I ask for the readers to please post thoughts in the comments. The decisions we make as moderators are primarily influenced by the community.

All of this is what Faithless meant by growing pains in one of his previous comments. Trying to get the ugly comments to stop is a process, we are slowly trying to figure this out.

When you said – You can’t stop disagreements. I agree 100% man. We don’t want to stop them! We just don’t want people to flame and disrespect one another when they do disagree. People who disagree about which pizza place is better, do not have to cuss each other out and get ugly to make a point. That type of ugly behavior is what we don’t want to see. That’s really it man, it’s nothing more than that.

          - About comment approval

We recently turned on the Restricted Words feature in Disqus, mostly because we had users complain about so many people replying with full caps F bombs all the time. The only other thing that can catch comments and move them to approval is the following:

           - Some user flags the comment as spam. (This moves it to pending.)
           - Disqus starts acting retarded. (I’ve seen it move perfectly good comments to pending for no good reason.)

I just went in the admin panel and approved like 10 pending comments. Sorry for the delay with that, just got home.We don’t have anything like all comments must be approved by a Mod turned on, and we never will.

I really hope this comment gets us back on the same page here.

        • FaithlessMr

I believe you’re seeing this in the wrong way…We’re not subjugating anyone, as that was not, and never will be our intention. Damn, I’m a dude like you and all the others, posting on this website on my free time, and having fun discussing videogame news with people who may share or disagree with my opinions. And trust me when I say it that neither me nor Zero nor Sal nor Adam or whatever else works on this website or helps with it’s community managment is any step above or below any of the members of this community. I’ve said it and will say it again, I’m a user first.

We’re asking everyone to abide for a simple set of rules, that were implemented to allow for a fair and equal participation from every user who chooses to be a part of our community. The rules we implemented were not made to chase away anyone, or to somehow makes us feel empowered. Heck, there are many things in this life that make me feel mighty and empowered, such as doing great at my job, knowing I helped someone, winning the lottery…internet moderation tasks are not feats that make me feel empowered or a step above anyone else. I’m pretty sure the same applies to our buddy Zero. Please, consider seeing the whole thing from a neutral standpoint, instead of assuming we’re here to shackle your opinions and cease your freedom of speech. We’re simply asking for moderation in the way you choose to voice your concerns and respect others, and to use the appropriate threads/comment sections. We do not ask you to hush your opinions, we ask you to voice them out in a way that doesn’t hurt anyone in the process.

    • FaithlessMr

Again, we’re not telling you to not feel angry or sad about it. We’re just asking you to voice your concerns in the appropriate sections. Not everyone shares these concerns, some people just want to go to a LR: FF XIII post and talk about, well, LR: FF XIII. I’m the first to admit SE has been acting awful about Versus and other games and franchises they’ve been putting out, but if every thread on a random SE game turns into a massive flamefest about how Versus has not been released yet, then it kinda destroys the purpose of having one open thread and separate posts dedicated to different games and game news related to these games.

I can relate to the feeling, but like any other internet community, some degree of moderation is necessary.. And this has absolutely nothing to do with agreement or disagreement. Just go to the Versus post from last week and you’ll see what I had to say about Versus. I’m on your side here, trust. And I’m pretty sure Zero and Sal like me and you would want to see the game released.

      • rockman29

Faithless, I’ve been on a LOT of forums in my internet life already. I’ve been on a lot of forums where there are MANY disagreements.

The problem with the new attitude towards ‘being off topic’ is just an excuse to prune the comments list to something what the moderators and owners like. Is that cool?

One thing you’ll have to learn with a diverse community on many forums is that you can’t STOP disagreements. It’s never going to happen, so stop trying.

Let people say what they want to say. If they are, as you are saying, getting into the grey area or crossing the line into calling people names and talking crap to each other or swearing at each other, that’s a BIG difference from just complaining that a company isn’t living up to it’s word. That’s their opinion, get over it moderators.

You guys know exactly what the arguments are about, and are denying the source of the problem is SE’s treatment of their fans. There’s no problem with the users on this site (unless they flame each other). And they don’t flame each other every time, which you guys are acting like they do.

        • FaithlessMr

I’ve been to and actively participate in other forums as well over the years, even tho I now only visit gametrailers (as a moderator) andriasang, siliconera and this website/community. I’m sorry, but I can’t be okay with the “laissez faire, laissez passer” attitude on internet forums…sooner or later, something had to be done. Why can’t things take their place? It’s not like we’re being nazis about it. Since you’ve been to other forums, you prolly saw moderators acting on a much stricter basis than we are.

There have been several occasions in which me and Zero posted warnings in threads without actually banning anyone or deleting comments. And that happens because we believe nothing drastic needs to happen around here, coz we’re a nice community overall. But even in the nicest communities, stuff needs to be organized. Rock, is it that much trouble to just move the conversation elsewhere instead of cluttering a topic with off topic discussion? I mean, I’m a user first, here and in many other websites and forums I post in, and I don’t personally understand how this is a problem, I’m sorry.I think you see this as an attack on your opinions, when that is clearly not happening. This is simply a way to keep everything on it’s place, to the best of our capabilities. No one is saying you can’t go off topic once in a thread/post, but derailing entire conversations is a no-no, and that’s where we’re trying to get with this.

If you simply shrug it off and let it be, then every internet community would turn to 4chan’s /b/, and we all know how much of a cesspool that place is. I’m totally overdoing it here, ofc, since that’s like on the opposite of the spectrum, but…some degree or moderation and organization is necessary, and we’re really trying to reach to be as fair and understanding as possible here, I can assure you as much.

          • rockman29

Alright, I see you guys are trying to explain and be reasonable, but if my comments have to be moderated before posting on this site again, I’m done.

And address the flaming directly, and be specific you are aiming at flaming.

If a topic is about SE and people want to hear more about Versus, let them express that. It’s obviously important. If it gets to flaming and fighting, then it’s too much.

New account and yes January 12, 2013.

I wanted to ask that too, since January 12th is my birthday.
                Thank you for explaining.

          That’s what I meant. xD

        • Kobracon

Site looks sleaker (is that a word?). But a little sad to see the red go away.

    • FaithlessMr

Yeah, kudos to Sal, I definitely can’t take the praise for something I didn’t work for. Looks awesome :)

  • Locksus

Thanks Sal for your work on the new looks! Personally, I love the look.

Do any of you have the leaked production board from versus 13?

I cant find it on my comp :

What are you talking about? If I knew what you were talking about I might be able to help.

Yeah it needs to be spread, I mean seriously Theres the world map!!

                • KingOptimusOrigins111

The world looks massive and they can only accomplish this on PS3. This is a clear example why it’s not coming to the 360 or the Wii U.

                  (Prodigy-X Rises 1/12/13)

                  • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

It would be possible on the wuu, since the tech is like way newer,I still want it to be exclusive as Im  a exclusive lover no matter the system(they are good for the industry!!!!!)

                    • KingOptimusOrigins111

But they would have stop and do things over again and like you said in the past Nomura only makes exclusives. Plus the Wii U is rumor to have no built in storage memory.

                      (Prodigy-X Rises 1/12/13)

                    • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

                      No harddrive?…..the heck :

and yeah porting it would take time, time I am not willing to wait.

                    • KingOptimusOrigins111

That’s why their taking to long give a release date and pricing of the Wii U until this month because they don’t want people finding out what the Wii U can’t do.

                      (Prodigy-X Rises 1/12/13)

                    • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

Yeah they have been incredibly vague with what the wuu has or can do :

Is the game a reboot or an origin story? Ninja theory never really made it clear…

Opinions opinions, i didn’t really find Richards voice boring, i find his voice is expressing the right feeling for his words so far, i shall continue playing now, also SPOILER AHEAD -> DONT READ! XD : Keep in mind that Richard is tired of the constant fights and wars plus he has nothing to cheer about because his father died and his own soldiers want to kill him so he sounds unhappy and this is probably the right voice

I honestly think Richard’s voice (the prince guy) is far better in English than its Japanese counterpart. How to say it… it sounds so much more believable given his behavior and way of thinking.

Now, that’s Richard. The other voices are terrible, yes. Especially Asbel’s, though that’s just my opinion.

    [IMPORTANT POST, PLEASE READ]

    Okay, cool, attention received.

Two things I want to address:

    1) Is anyone experiencing layout problems with the new theme? If you are, could you take a screen cap and post it, and tell me what browser you’re using?

    2) I received an e-mail about this, so I figured I’d publicly address it here. Question was ‘Why aren’t you doing Famitsu’s Most Wanted posts’ anymore. Simple answer: the green.
Seriously, though, it costs $15 a week for me to get a copy of Famitsu. That’s $2.25 for the train ride to the city (times two, there and back), and about $9.25 for the magazine. Total that every month and it comes out to essentially $60. And believe it or not, the site doesn’t pull in much revenue to help make paying for it easy. (Maybe our advertising is just terrible? I’m working to get better ads.)

Anyhow, I’m not sure if this is possible, but I was thinking of opening a weekly $15-max donation pot every week. You know, once it hits $15, donations are no longer open. If we reach $15, then I’ll get the magazine and cover most wanted. If not, I’ll roll them over to the next week, and see if we reach $15 then. This would, of course, be open to readers interested in hearing about Fami readers’ top games every week.

At the moment, this is just an idea. I don’t want to sound like a greedy tard, or anything, but $60 a month comes out to $720 a year. And that’s not the kind of money I could afford to be spending on magazines. So, like I said, I’m thinking maybe we’ll offer this to readers who are interested in these weekly posts. What are your thoughts on this?

    • AdamBoy64

I’m more of a reader than a poster here these days – but I’d love to contribute to your site. I get a lot from it, and I’d love any opportunity to give something back.

    • Kurai Warrior

I can spare a couple bucks for that.

Right lets try to make this OF happier.

*ahem* Describe your avatar, ladies and gentlemen.

Mine is a picture of the Joker from Batman: Mask of the Phantasm movie but I inverted the colours with a photo editing tool.

    • Haruya

Mine is a pic from Nozomu Itoshiki, the main character in the anime “Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei”. I love him because he’s super weird and fun as hell, and since I’m studying to become a teacher, I aim to become just like him. :D

…Minus the suicide stuff, probably. Haha.

    • http://gematsu.com/ Zero

Mine is a picture of Hei from Darker than Black.

Might switch up my avatar again here soon. =D

      • Sovereign Gale

Great anime. ;D I haven’t watched very many episodes, but I liked what I saw.

    • AdamBoy64

My avatar is the main character from the White Knight Chronicles series, Leonard.
I still haven’t gotten around to playing WKC2 yet..

  • Haruya

Well, I’ve been gone from this website for a few weeks because of… well, life and college. Right now I just feel like reading something relaxing and having fun, so I’ll just skip through the comments stating many things about a certain company we all know and ask a simple question:

What is the game you’re working towards getting next?

I’m just gonna go and say it: I’m waiting for Call of Duty Black Ops II. I’ve already pre-ordered the game and I’ve been paying the fee in small amounts of cash every week.

I am also saving some more money in order to import the PS3 Japanese version of Catherine. I just love that these PS3 games are not region-locked.

    • http://gematsu.com/ Zero

      Welcome Back! =)

      Nice question.

I’d say the next game I would like to save up for is Dishonored. It looks very good.
I’m just not sure I can afford to get it. (Also kinda trying to save up for a vita.)

I already have like $80 put down towards the CE of Assassins Creed III. I’m almost done paying it off… =P

It doesn’t help when I find myself giving in and spending cash on really good game deals. Kinda hard to pass up good deals, but I need to be saving up better.

    • Kobracon

God so much……my wallets crying in the corner basically. I’m aiming to get Guild Wars 2 eventually, Darksiders 2, Hyperdimensional Neptunia V, Record of Agarest War 2, Tales of Xillia 1 and 2.

And even more are on the horizon. Gotta farm that Diablo 3 and get some cash….

      • Sovereign Gale

         Lists like these remind me of why I need a job. ;__;

    • http://gematsu.com/ Sal Romano

Hmm. Any reason you’re importing the JP version of Catherine?

      (That game is amazing, btw.)

      • Haruya

Because the US and EU versions of the game have the same bug: You cannot complete “Axis Mundi”, the last stage of the Babel game mode, on Solo. The stage is impossible to beat. Therefore, as a huge fan (*cough* nerd *cough*) of the game, I want to import the only version out there that doesn’t have any kind of bug/glitch.

Also, I love games with japanese voices… even if I sometimes cannot understand very well what I’m reading, haha.

Everyone, please check out my first article for Gematsu.

    Thanks for the support. =)

Wow, been away for few days and this is Gematsu looks like now, awesome.

  • Locksus

I have a question for those who’ve played Tales of Vesperia before. I just bought the game and I’m truly enjoying it so far.

But I kind of suck at tweaking the strategy settings and deciding what’s the best party. Should I just go with the characters I like the most or is there a specific set up that is better than other set ups? I like having Judith in my party for obvious reasons so what’s the best strategy setup for her?

Thanks in advance and I hope my question isn’t presented too complicatedly.

    • AdamBoy64

Hmm.. I’m not sure if there’s an easy answer there.
You might have to experiment and see what you like. It’ll probably be more fun that way.
Perhaps I was one of the few, but I was never a Judith fan..

  • Nekmex

I was joking with Last of Us, in fact i am a PS3 owner and will get it because it looks awesome,

DmC is just an insult to real fans of Devil May Cry, you can’t deny that.

Oh, this is my PSN: UltraForza, add me guys :), i play uncharted 3 online most of the time and Skullgirls, i am mexican btw

  • Kurai Warrior

^^ This is what I’m talking about mods.

Thank you! I would totally hug you if it were possible.

Hopefully he’ll learn to be nicer this week.

I’ve played all of the previous DMC games and I pretty familiar with every story, character, event, I even read all of the monsters descriptions. I think I’m a fan of the series and believe it or not I’m really looking forward to the next one.

  • Sovereign Gale

I really wish people would stop calling themselves “real fans”, as if they were in any way distinct or BETTER than others who claim to like something similar. The fact is that if you like something, you’re a fan of it. And for any given piece of media, there will be fans of it and people who don’t like it. It doesn’t get more complicated than that, and nobody really NEEDS to complicate it more than that. I know many fans of the original DMC who are interested in the new game, and they certainly don’t seem very “insulted”.

  • Kobracon

You think this is bad, you should see the FF fans.

Personally I’ve been with DMC since the beginning and I DID enjoy Heavenly Sword. Sure I don’t like Dante’s new look but if Ninja Theory can pull off the combat, they’ll earn my respect. Besides, theres no way its gonna be worse than DMC2 (WHICH DOESN’T EXIST!!!)

  • Sovereign Gale

Believe me when I say I know ALL about the Final Fantasy fans. xD I’m just frustrated with the people who dub themselves “real/true fans” of something, as if they’re part of some elite group. Then they think they speak for everyone when they make a statement (like saying that the new DMC is, without question, an insult to old DMC fans), and anyone who disagrees with them isn’t really a fan at all, OR they’re ruining the franchise by supporting weaker entries. (which is what I’ve endured because I actually liked Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2 >__>)
