I don’t normally watch anime as it’s still running. It’s not like I have anything against it – I just usually find cool stuff way after it’s finished airing. So right now, I’m watching Sword Art Online. And the wait for every Saturday is incredibly annoying. So in the mean time, I decided I’d watch Digimon Xros Wars.

(Might be some spoilers for Xros Wars ahead.)

I loved Adventure, Adventure 02, and Tamers. Frontier shouldn’t have existed. It kind of killed the whole partner and bonding concept. I haven’t watched Savers (aside from the first episode way back when), so I can’t judge that (I’ll watch it whenever it appears on Crunchyroll – most convenient for me). But yeah. I’m 40 episodes into Xros Wars (apparently it ran two seasons, 74 episodes), and it’s not bad. But I’m not sure if it’s good, either. Maybe it’s because I’m so hung up on the classic concept of Digimon? You know, one partner, no recruiting/capturing more Digimon, and a mix of standard (Agumon to Greymon, for example) and unique (V-Mon to Flamedramon, or Stingmon and XV-Mon to Paildramon) methods of digivolution.

It kind of bugs me that MetalGreymon, for instance, is formed by DigiXrossing MailBirdramon and a purple-skinned, orange-striped Greymon. And that it looks completely different from what MetalGreymon should look like. Why not just call it something different? Like MailGreymon? And it’s odd that it’s Kiriha’s digivolution Digimon (MetalGreymon to ZekeGreymon), rather than MailBirdramon, who everyone first assumed was his main “partner.” And for some reason, I feel their digivolutions won’t go beyond one level, as Xrossing is the point of the show. (You know, OmegaShoutmon won’t evolve within his own line, any further.)

I don’t know. It’s weird. But whatever. I’m enjoying watching it, so don’t let my rant stop you from giving it a shot.

    • xMCXx

I love Frontier as much as the other seasons.
Like any other seasons, it had awesome songs and the German dub was great.
No offence, but I feel sorry for you Americans who got this cheesy peudo-rap xD

I don’t like Xros Wars, though. Maybe it’s because of this weird Transformers feature. That kinda put me off.

    • http://www.silconera.com/ Tsunami_13

I actually like Frontier, but I couldn’t really get into Tamers.  Adventure 02 was good, but Davis and the crew could never hook me like the original seven…or eight (including Kari) did.  I love the first season, I still have the Movie on DVD and eagerly waiting for FOX to get up off their *** to make a Blu-ray version.

  • PrinceHeir

anyone know what anime this girl is from??

    http://i46.tinypic.com/ht5jex.jpg

    also what anime is this???

    http://s10.postimage.org/7d628wlw9/dr4.gif

    looks fun :D

btw been watching anime for tons of weeks now, what hae you been watching??

just finished Shiki(pretty brutal especially episode 14) Macross Frontier Movies(Itsuwari no Utahime and Sayonara no Tsubasa)

and now im watching Black Lagoon(just finished ep 10)

been gaming less, only played Uncharted 3 ver 1.13 after 2 weeks of non-gaming :O

    • http://moefx.wordpress.com/ barklight

      1. Rocket Girls.
      2. It’s from an eroge called Dracu-riot, i believe.

      • PrinceHeir

        thank you soo much :D

  • Acidicsam

Hybrid finally came out today, and it’s been non-stop server issues. I sort of expected it, as just about every XBLA multiplayer game comes out with server issues on the first day(you’d think Microsoft would figure this stuff out).

So, I’ve been rewatching Code Lyoko on Netflix while I wait for that to get sorted out.

    • Revorse

WAIT….WHAT?! When did Code Lyoko come to Netflix??

      • Acidicsam

I have no idea, but it’s on there, and I’ve been watching the hell out of it!

        Quick! Rush to Netflix!

    • Locksus

I tried Hybrid trial version today. It certainly plays different from other shooters but it is very fun and enjoyable. I would’ve bought it if Dust: An Elysian Tail didn’t come out next week. I’ve my MS points waiting! :p

      • Finalshoryuken

Dust is  coming out next week!? My body’s not ready! It’s not ready I tells ya!

        • Locksus

Yes, it is! The waiting is killing me because man, the game looks SOO beautiful and awesome. I can’t believe it’s work of a single man!

          • Acidicsam

I find it funny that some of the best XBLA games have such small staffs…

I mean, Bastion was made mostly in one guys living room by a small group of people

        • Locksus

Yes, it is! The waiting is killing me because man, the game looks SOO beautiful and awesome. I can’t believe it’s work of a single man!

      • Acidicsam

I really liked it from what I played. It matches how I usually play third person, cover-based shooters(moving from cover to cover, spending as little time out in the open as possible). So, it’s nice to have the game handle the movement for me whilst I focus on doing work…

And it’s working, I’ve been topping the list in every match I played lol.

    • Acidicsam

End of the first day! Despite the server problems, I still got to play 5h 22m, and I finished my gameplay at rank 16 in the world…

It’s sad because that’s going to drop like a brick as time goes on.

  • PrinceHeir

    also another question

since my brother has been playing alot of Tactics Ogre LUCT ^^

any more SRPG besides this that you can recommend??

like Tactics, Jeanne d’Arc, and Disgaea??

i also played Advance Wars and seen a little bit of Fire Emblem :D

    • http://moefx.wordpress.com/ barklight

Tactics Ogre is awesome, my personal fave SRPG.

Try Brigandine, a PS1 game though. Nice story, awesome creatures and jobs.
Also Luminous Arc series in NDS, nice story and cool gameplay mechanic.

      • PrinceHeir

thanks, you also reminded me about Vanguard Bandits which is also a SRPG i bought on PS1 classics earlier this year.

        will check those out :)

    • Archvile78

You could try Record of Agarest War and Record of Agarest War Zero (zero being a prequel to RoAW)

They’re not bad but they’re really grind HEAVY so i don’t know if you’d fancy that.

      • PrinceHeir

cool will see check it out :D

    • Kobracon

SUPER ROBOT WARS! If you love mech and jaw dropping animation, its awesome. The language barrier isn’t as big as you’d think. A bit of trial and error and you should be fine. Plus there are tons of sites that translated most of the keywords.

      • PrinceHeir

        awesome2 :)

i wish namco would localize them though :(

        • Kobracon

As do I my friend. But unless other countries adopt Japan’s laws and policiies, here is no way it’ll be localized coz it’ll cost WAY to much for the licensing for each and every mech series in the game.

Since SRW Original Generation for the GBA only had original characters, it was much simpler to localise, but the mainstay SRWs will never see the light of day in NA unless some super rich tycoon pays a localizing company zillions to localise it…..

          • PrinceHeir

            i agree :(

well if i became a millionaire it’s one of the first things i’ll do XD

probably help Xseed with it’s localization, force Atlus to include Dual Audio in ever game they have, NIS push as well as LE goodies.

ahh it will be good if that happens ^^

    • z_merquise

You already tried Fire Emblem. Kobracon already mentioned Super Robot Wars.

Hmmm. Queen’s Gate: Spiral Chaos! Yeah, I know it’s a very naughty game but it’s actually good. It’s also developed by Banpresto (developers of Super Robot Wars games). What made it better is the cross-over characters. You’ll never see Noel of Blazblue, Mai of Fatal Fury/KOF, Lili of Tekken, Dizzy of Guilty Gear, Iroha of Samurai Shodown together in a single game. It also got awesome (and sometimes, hilarious) attack animations.

It was in Japanese but someone in the GameFAQS board made a helpful guide in it if you need to understand the game and the mechanics.

      • PrinceHeir

yeah thanks for reminding me that :)

your definitely a big fan of the game right??

        have you finished it??

        • z_merquise

Finished the game for a long time. I was halfway of my 2nd playthrough that I stopped and got back in playing it few days ago.

Iroha and Dizzy for the win!!

  • Adam Meadows

Gematsu, I’m sorry – I’m so, so, sorry. You just lost THE GAME.

    • FaithlessMr

       Well, fuck :(

  • Anime10121

DOA 5’s new story trailer!  Looks AWESOME :)

      love Christie :D

Here’s a question, why doesn’t Activision make a new engine for COD?

    • Kobracon

Another question is, why don’t they start making other things. Or revive the Guitar Hero franchise at least…

    • Acidicsam

Because that would cost money, and so long as CoD still sells millions with the current engine, Activision sees no reason to use money to improve an engine that sells more than ten million copies every year.

Basically, it’s a very strong and capitalist view of “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

  • KingOptimusOrigins111

What do you guys think about the Vita thus far. I haven’t touched mine in a while. I did purchase Mortal Kombat for it last week for 9.99 via Gamestop. Any other games or apps you may recommend?

    • Archvile78

I still don’t think it’s worth a purchase. Not enough interesting games, a high price tag for what it currently offers.

    • Kobracon

I plan to get one when Persona 4 The Golden comes out. Getting a system just for one game can be entirely justified when said game can probably last me 200 hours :P

    • http://gematsu.com/ Zero

I plan to try and get one this holiday. I’m interested in Gravity Rush, Uncharted GA, Assassins Creed 3 Liberation, and of course, Persona 4 Golden. I also would like to clear some back log of PSP games I own digitally.

The White Vita Bundle that includes AC3 Liberation and a 4GB memory stick is currently listed at $249.99, which I think is a great price. (I plan to get this bundle.)

    • http://gematsu.com/ Sal Romano

No one’s mentioned Gravity Rush for some reason. That’s the game to get.

  • Anime10121

New Pokemon Black/White Version 2 Animated Trailer DUBBED in ENGLISH and it looks great.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkTsd0iU97s&feature=player_embedded

Now if only the anime would have evolved into something similar, vs an Ash that never grows older, and forever wanders in his quest to be a Pokemon master with no advancement whatsoever:(

    • http://gematsu.com/ Zero

Impressive animation. Some of the dialogue was a bit cheesy, but I enjoyed the trailer overall.

Makes me kind think about what a real console version of Pokemon could be like. With cinematics like this for story events in the game.

  • Rezar

Does anyone have a favorite voice actor/actress in video games? Feel free to list as many as you want and what character they voiced in what game.

    • Kobracon

Johnny Yong Bosch comes to mind. Also Nolan North (I know hes overused but thats coz hes really good).

On the Japanese Seiyuu side of things, I love almost the entire cast of the Basara games. Especially Tomokazu Seki and Norio Wakamoto.

    • Archvile78

I like Troy Baker, despite him being everywhere but he’s that good.
Cam Clarke and Kirk Thornton are also up there in my favorite VA.

    • HanPaul

Liam O’Brian’s smooth voice as Lezard and War will always stand out for me.

I like Laura Bailey too, but not when she uses her girly, high-pitched voice.  It’s really grating in Catherine and Crimson Gem Saga.

    • z_merquise

Steve Blum – even if his “Spike Spiegel-esque” voice or his rough-and-gruff voice were overused, it still sound awesome.

Nolan North – to be honest, I never heard his other voice roles other than Deadpool and Vashyron in Resonance of Fate but I really like his voice performance as Vashyron.

Mamiko Noto – I instantly fell in love with her voice when I first heard her as Oichi in Sengoku Basara 2. I become a fan of her since.

Koyasu Takehito – one of my favorite Japanese voice actors. I mostly like usual ‘deep but smooth’ voice though he also had different voice range.

Norio Wakamoto – you can always tell that the ultimate bad guy would become more awesome when voiced by Norio Wakamoto. I only noticed only one type of voice for him but that doesn’t mean that it was bad. He’s really one of the awesome veteran voice actors.

      • Kobracon

About Norio Wakamoto: Or y’know, he plays an extremely silly character like that cat/father in Azumanga Daioh XD. “I WISH I WERE A BIRD!”

    • http://gematsu.com/ Zero

So many great names mentioned in the other replies to this post. I’ll add Crispin Freeman, as one of my personal favorite american voice actors. I’m also a big fan of Jennifer Hale.

One of my favorite Japanese voice actors is Sugita Tomokazu, and I love to listen to Fujimura Ayumi say almost anything.

  • Kobracon

Whats your guilty pleasure game? A game you know is terrible but just love it for whatever reason. I suppose my love for the Koei’s Warrior series could count. They’re repetitive, its too hard to max every character, historical inaccuracies, terrible TERRIBLE dubbing, but goddammit Koei tries hard every time to improve. I find almost too much joy in slaughtering soldiers by the thousands, which is something I should probably tell my psychiatrist about….

    TL:DR
    What’s your guilty pleasure game?

    • Archvile78

I’m with you on KOEI games, i actually don’t consider them terrible because, even on the highest setting you can get caught off guard but their sheer simplicity gameplay wise is what makes them so fun. Personally Warriors Orochi for me, there’s such a vast cast, sure it always comes down to the same basic thing, slaughter enemy troops over and over and over again but you know what? I love it and it gets quite addicting and i see myself pumping 50+ hours in those.

Of course i don’t get every numbered games that comes out but once in a while, especially with a friend who also love these there’s tons of funs to be had. This also applies to their Samurai Warriors serie, Gundam Musou and Fist of the North Star.

      • Kobracon

Warriors Orochi 3! My GOD if you thought the first was bad, 100+ characters! I am STILL playing it and no where NEAR done…

        • Archvile78

Yep, 135 characters. It’s probably their series i prefer the most now because aside the SW and DW cast i love how they throw in the Mystic people and they’re all REALLY good. You’ll love Susano’o!

Do you play it on PS3 or 360?

          • Kobracon

PS3. Yeah I’m waiting to get him. I’ve only managed to max about 9 characters so far.

            • Archvile78

Hmm that may sound random but would you like to add each others on PSN? I’m myself slowly working toward having S for all characters, i only need the Samurai Crew to S i think and maybe 1 or 2 “Others 2″

My PSN is Archvile78, we could play some stages together at some point.

              • Kobracon

Sure. Time difference may be a pain but I’ll add ya. My PSN is KobraCondor.

I don’t recall ‘S’s…are you talking about bonds?

                • Archvile78

Nah, it’s when you use a character and kill with them, your rank with each characters start at F then progressively rise to S after like 2500 kills with them, this unlocks costume and artwork. Gotta do this for every character! And what’s your timeframe? Mine’s GMT -5 EST but i can be around 90% of the time so timezone never was an issue here.

                  • Kobracon

Mine would be GMT +8. Oh the proficiency. Oh your handling a much more realistic task then me XD. I plan to max level every character.

                    • Archvile78

I’ll help you in this journey to maximizing! Only thing i hate about online is how we always have to reinvite each others after each fight >.> but hey its still fun! Anyway, add me when you want. (:

                    • Kobracon

Sure. I’ll do that when i get home. I’ve never actually went online with WO3 before.

                    • Rezar

Bummer. I would play with you guys but I have Warriors Orochi 3 and a majority of my games are for the Xbox 360.

    • http://gematsu.com/ Zero

I feel the same way. I can always load up and play some Dynasty Warriors etc with a friend. I think a big part of it for me is the Co-Op feature.

      • Kobracon

        ENEMY OFFICER DEFEATED!

    • http://www.facebook.com/JaeWhy SasuleUchiha

      Dynasty Warrior :D
I love the series and it’s so fun.

GTA San Andreas probably, I always play it when I’m extremely bored and had a bad day but when I play it and killing everyone, riding jetpack, driving around, it makes me feel better and maybe I should went to see psychiatrist too.

DotA, I put thousand of hours into this game. I used to play it everyday before I got my PS3.

      • Kobracon

Is GTA San Andreas a bad game though? Its widely praised as a good game. I’m talking about bad games that everyone says sucks balls but YOU love anyway.

  • http://gematsu.com/ Zero

I don’t plan on playing much online, but Persona 4 Arena picked this title for me lol.

http://i.picpar.com/d2a5ebf4a797a7702148e6e5a45c28df285a2a32.JPG (Large picture and file size)

It picked that for me on the first try! It must be some kind of sign… Don’t try to play this online, you suck at this game right now. xD

    • Kobracon

OMG thats hilarious XD I still haven’t tried online yet. I think my Yosuke might me ready though.

  • gamemastergg

So I finished Kingdom Hearts 3D and I LOVED the last few hours with Riku. Just Awesome. Then I beat Julius, that was hard as hell, but he got his ass kicked and now I have the Ultima Weapon for both Sora and Riku. Then I unlocked the secret message and the secret ending and now my brother is playing it. I can’t wait for the HD Collection and for 3. I loved how they teased that KH 3 is coming next, even in the credits in various ways. I loved KH 3D. 9/10 from me. So today I began Ratchet and Clank: A crack in time.

    • Anime10121

You’re going to love a Crack in Time too, shame that they never seemed to actually conclude the stories that Future ToD and a CiT seemed to be setting up, instead we got All4one (because EVERY game needs forced multiplayer, right). :(

  • http://www.squarealliance.com/ Zackasaur

I’m just posting to let you know that I like the KH: Dream Drop Distance header.

Seriously my favourite game of all time.

  • Locksus
    • FaithlessMr

That can mean they’re going with a different name…it doesn’t necessarily mean the game was cancelled. Now, the lack of any official trailer, gameplay video or status update from the people working on it, those are possible indicators that would lead me to seriously believe the game was cancelled.

  • Locksus

Has anyone else here played Fez? I’m playing it right now and say what you will about Fish but this game is fantastic. The game is truly charming and it feels like I’ve gone back in time. For only 10 euros this game is totally worth it!
