Haunting Ground set for PS2 Classics
ESRB rating outs Capcom horror re-release.

Haunting Ground is coming to PlayStation 3 via PS2 Classics, if an ESRB rating is anything to go by.

Originally launched in 2005, the Capcom survival horror game, a spin-off to the Clock Tower franchise, sees protagonist Fiona Belli make her way through Belli Castle, all the while solving puzzles, unlocking doors, and fighting the castle’s creepy inhabitants as she attempts to escape.

The PS2 had fantastic rpgs and horror games!

      • PrinceHeir

agree, in fact you could say it had the most(i think??)

Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Fatal Frame, Clock Tower, Haunting Ground, Rule of Rose, Kuon,

even games like Castlevania Curse of Darkness/Lament of Innocence gives you this haunting feel when your in a castle.

        • FaithlessMr

And all of them are amazing! Rule of Rose is one I’d love to play, but it’s so damn rare…and expensive!

            What be Rule of Rose?

            • DrForbidden

Wait, you’ve never heard of Rule of Rose?

i remember this game. it wasn’t that enjoyable for me. >.<

            • FaithlessMr

Quite the polemic game…DrForbidden went ahead and did what I’d do. But I’m gonna take it up a notch, by throwing in a game trailer for you:

Let’s just say this game is….really weird. It was banned in some regions, because it depicted children as evil beings, and some believed the game to be too sadistic in nature. Basically, a girl is taken hostage (dunno if this is the best way to describe this) by a group of children, who then force the girl to play their wicked games. Weird and disturbing game, and reaaaaally rare and expensive one at that.

Technically, it was banned because it was deemed “too cruel” by the Classification Board. The pedophilia themes also contributed to it’s ban. It was banned in most regions in Europe as well as Australia (FUUUUUUUUUU-)!

                • FaithlessMr

Yes, thanks for that. Well the game was indeed weird, but we got nastier movies being published in the PAL regions, so I don’t understand why this game was abolished like so!

darn. I was going to sell my copy of Haunting Ground (I see people are selling them for almost new prices…i usually sell my video games for $10 tops lol.) And I was going to try Rule of Rose one more time before selling it in case I didn’t like it, but since you said it’s rare, maybe I should keep it. Even if I don’t play em. I suck at scary video games. I have the Silent Hill series, but do I play them? Hell no. Fatal Frame? I think it’s awesome. Siren was good too but I sold mine. I’m just to scared to play them lol.

            • FaithlessMr

You should definitely keep it. The US version of the game isn’t as rare. I’ll be honest, the game isn’t amazing, gameplay wise it is kinda broken, but it has some cult status that does make it interesting.

I’m a huge fan of survival horror and yet I can’t seem to get into the Siren/Forbidden Siren series :x

The PS2 era was the Golden Age of horror video games. Sadly, it seems that age is not returning, what with the worldwide lack of interest in making new horror games and with franchises like Resident Evil and Dead Space abandoning their horror roots to traverse increasingly down the action-shooter road.

It has to do with how the industry changed as a whole, unfortunately. And I fear we’re simply never coming back to that state where japanese and american and european games can coexist without people ever assuming one type of game needs to trump over the other.

We could go on forever about this now :P

Indeed. Can’t wait to see Square start releasing some PS2 classics. Kingdom Hearts 1, 2, Re: CoM, Final Fantasy X, X-2, XII, Dragon Quest VIII, Star Ocean III, and many more!

        • FaithlessMr

Luckily I have all out of those you named minus Star Ocean III, which I’d love to see on PSN. And KH Re:CoM, which was never released in europe :/

          • http://gematsu.com/ Sal Romano

            =o

This would be the perfect opportunity for such a release!

            • FaithlessMr

Yup! It still baffles me why SE simply decide to pass up on Europe when they released that game. Sure the ps2 wasn’t as popular back then, but it’s still a high profile, Kingdom Hearts release which simply didn’t come over.

              Not many seemed to care, but I certainly did ;_;

Haunting Ground was amazing and I loved Fiona and Hewie <3. The enemies were quite disturbing…Especially Daniella! Her theme was so sick…I totally recommend this game. I would love to see another like it one day

  • PrinceHeir

    amazing!!!!

i was actually planning on getting this but the retail cost is just too high.

already bought Fatal Frame 1 and 2 so more horror game is always welcome :D

  • HanPaul

Capcom sure knows how to surprise.
I might pick this up since I never finished the first one.

  • Charlie

I didn’t expect to see so many fans of this game. That’s brilliant!

  • zakou

    USA psn or EU one?

ESRB is the North American rating system. So North America, for now.
