Re-release to include Achievements, Boosters, more.

Square Enix has confirmed a PC re-release of Final Fantasy VII following a leak late last month. However, unlike we wrongfully asummed (which we probably shouldn’t have done), it will be available “exclusively through the Square Enix Store,” and not on Steam.

As detailed before, the game has three new key (online) features:

  • Achievements – Whether you’re a seasoned Final Fantasy VII veteran or exploring this RPG classic for the very first time, show off your in-game accomplishments and put your gaming skills to the test with 36 brand new achievements to unlock. Share your profile with friends online to find out who is the ultimate Final Fantasy fan.
  • Character Booster – Find yourself stuck on a difficult section or lacking the funds to buy that vital Phoenix Down? With the Character Booster you can increase your HP, MP, and Gil levels to their maximum, all with the simple click of a button, leaving you to enjoy your adventure.
  • Cloud Saves – Whether you’re away from home or simply using a different computer to play, enjoy Final Fantasy VII wherever you are. With cloud save support in Final Fantasy VII you can continue your game progress right where you left off, all you need is an internet connection.

A release date has not yet been set. It is currently listed as “coming soon.” Visit the game’s official site here. Watch the debut trailer below.

Alrighty, I’m always ready for more FFVII :)

I think its awesome that SE are releasing it on pc again! Now I need a updated version of FF8

  • DarthBrian

Character booster is a dumb idea, but otherwise bring it on I say! ^_^

I still have my FFVII PC discs, but it doesn’t have achievements. So, yeah, want. <3

Just noticed that they fixed the translation of Aerith’s name on the website. I hope this means they fixed it in the game too.

    Aerith. <3

You can rename the characters to whatever you want in any version either way, so you otaku’s can name whoever however you want.

      • DarthBrian

It’s the principle of the thing. :p

        • rockman29

Don’t make me come over there, BRIAN, if that IS your real name. Don’t make me rename you.

          • DarthBrian

Yes, that is my real name.

        • KingKelloggTheWaffleHaggler

Im going to name her aeris >:D

          • rockman29

            Yes! Hi5.

            • KingKelloggTheWaffleHaggler

              High 5!!!!

There already is a PC version, fyi for everyone. Same for FF VIII.

And I wouldn’t hold my breath for a vastly updated game just yet. But it would be nice to at least have a more compatible game, unlike SEGA’s Dreamcast Collection garbage.

Safe to assume no controller, but a keyboard and a mouse, right?

  • Zero

Available exclusively through the Square Enix Store.

    Why? That is just silly.

I was really hyped for a Steam release. I have very little faith in Square Enix as of late, so I’m fearful to see what kind of DRM this release will have. Hopefully they’ve included controller configuration and hopefully they’ll continue to support this cloud service in the long term.

Sal: you may want to rescind the ‘not on Steam’ comment. I don’t think this is just confirmed or not.

According to people looking into the updates for Steam, a Final Fantasy release IS in fact listed on there for the game ids or something for a store update.

I think it is VERY likely we will see a Steam release.

SquareEnix is too daft to offer cloud saves on their own frankly, and achievements.

Those two features would not be present without Steam.

As of now, count on the Steam release announcement coming soon.

I wouldn’t think so, as far as official things go (maybe later on, yeah). The site says “available EXCLUSIVELY on the Square Enix Store.”

Well honestly, if you guys still have that much confidence in SE to do all that themselves…
