Kojima confirms Metal Gear Solid 5

"We have not yet finished with Solid Snake," says Kojima.

Kojima Productions boss Hideo Kojima has confirmed development on Metal Gear Solid 5 to the twentieth issue (June / July) of the French IG Magazine.

“There will be a Metal Gear Solid 5 with the new FOX Engine,” confirmed Kojima (via Google Translate), “but what we’ve shown was not gameplay, or anything like that. It was only a demo that we had developed internally and released because the lighting and interactions with the environment had fooled everyone.”

Kojima continued: “About Metal Gear Solid 5, I can tell you two things. There will be much question of infiltration, espionage, and convincing people to give you “a favor” like in the last Metal Gear Solid. I liked the idea of social interactions in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, but we will see. And if I say more, the female ninja public relations officer, who is behind the door, I will be carved up into pieces. So it’s better that we meet again when the time comes to talk about Metal Gear Solid 5.”

Kojima also touched upon Metal Gear Rising, reiterating that it is not a Solid Snake title, but rather an offshoot that does something new.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance never claimed to be a Metal Gear Solid. This is not a game about our beloved Solid Snake. It is a spinoff that tries something different. We have not yet finished with Solid Snake, despite the fact that I wanted to let him die at the end of Guns of the Patriots.”

Thanks, Gamekyo.

MGS4 was so perfect and masterpiece, leave it alone.

@Rafi: You mean Kojima to stop making MG titles?… :O

Joke asides. Looking forward this. F* that Rising.

      • Pylons

@Noctionus: Quit being a baby. Rising looks good.

        • Noctionus

@Pylons: Not a die hard MG fan?. Ah okay…

          • Hinano

@Noctionus: What are you trying to imply with that? That’s irrelevant.

          • anime10121

@Noctionus: Im a die hard MG fan and I agree with Pylons, Rising is fine, its a spinoff that has gameplay by Platinum and a story by Kojima Productions. It looks good and nothing in the game seems outta place with its ridiculousness (most of the stuff in the trailers/gameplay Raiden did in MGS4) and has been that way since the first trailer.

The ONLY thing that seems strange is that Raiden is all of a sudden robotic again after seemingly (key-word, as we dont know for sure if he was made human or just made to look human) being human again at the end of MGS4. But then again, when you think about it, its almost impossible for Raiden, after having nearly his entire body modified, to be a flesh and (red) blood human, isn’t it?

    HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM….

    !

I honestly thought MGS4, while a game I LOVE, was the weakest in the series. It just tried to blend a little too much action into the game and tried to close the series or the end of GW and The Patriots a little too fast. Some of it felt a bit deus ex machina, but nevertheless I loved it. It did just feel a little schizophrenic sometimes, but hey… the fact that MGS4 exists as it is means that the world is fucking awesome.

Anywho… let’s play as The Boss? Let’s CQC some foos in 1939-44!

Wonder how their gonna work this out. I thought Snake was supposed to live the little time he had left in peace. MGS4 had a perfect conclusion for Solid Snakes story, although I cant say I’m disappointed, I’ve always liked SS more than Big Boss, and its kinda sad that we’ve played as Big Boss (MS3, MGSPO, MGS PW) in more Metal Gear SOLID titles than SS (MGS1 and MGS4, not counting MGS2 because that was basically Raiden’s game co starring SS) .

    yes please! (tgs reveil anyone?)

  • Finalshoryuken

They just couldn’t let the man have peace.

MGS4 had a perfect ending. I think Kojima had the right idea in wanting to let Solid Snake die. They should introduce a new character in MGS5

A Metal Gear game related from Liquid’s perspective?

  • FAUNA

I simply can’t believe PROJECT ENDERS is a reality. Now for a FOX ENGINE tech SNATCHER / POLICENAUTS. I would also love to see a Kojima Productions fantasy title…

We have not yet finished with Solid Snake, despite the fact that I wanted to let him die at the end of Guns of the Patriots.

I still think it would have been a perfect ending if Snake died. I’m surprised that Kojima agrees. I wonder if Konami opposed Snake dying? It could have just been a majority vote from the development team…

I just think that games try to pretend characters are super human sometimes, and letting a character like Solid Snake actually die in the game. That takes guts as a developer.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance never claimed to be a Metal Gear Solid. This is not a game about our beloved Solid Snake. It is a spinoff that tries something different.

Yes! I’m glad Kojima decided to come out and put a period on the end of that discussion.

No need for people to try and argue if Rising is supposed to be a spinoff or not, Kojima-san has given us the definitive answer.

One thing that is pretty obvious from all of this, Konami will not let Kojima-san leave Metal Gear alone. Hopefully it won’t get in the way of his new projects.

Let the man make other games, Konami!

And if I say more, the female ninja public relations officer, who is behind the door, I will be carved up into pieces.

Must be the same one that follows Nomura-san around.

I hope its good seeing how its going to get dumb down by the Xbox 360. Lets face it Metal Gear Solid HD Collection hints to it being multiplat.

  • FaithlessMr

Please make it more “stealth like” than the fourth one was Kojipro. As much as MGS4 is great, it was more “shooter-y” than the previous games in the series. That’s my only gripe with MGS4, the game was awesome so bring it on Kojipro.

  • KingKelloggTheWaffleHaggler

Leave Snake alone! Actually leave the MGS franchise alone entirely !

I dont want to see the MG name sullied anymore then it already has been!

  • RoboShinKen

I don’t see anything wrong with another game.

    Legends NEVER die.

Besides, as good as it was there is always room for improvement.

It only gets better with each game released!

  • ekka4shiki

    This gen or next gen?

    Probably next gen …

  • Malcolm Reynolds

The whining about MGR:R is beyond stupid.

I hate this generation of lamers.

I’ll buy two copies of MGR. 1 for me to play. The other to spite the whiners in hopes the extra sales encourage Kojima to continue making spinoffs.

Metal Gear Kart Racing. Metal Gear Move.
    Metal Gear Dancing for Kinect.

Anything and everything just so the crybabies can continue to cry. I love it.

    • KingKelloggTheWaffleHaggler

@Malcolm Reynolds: And I wont buy any! Just too spite you!

Seriously though, mgr looks fun but I can see why the people would be mad. -_-
