Dead Space 3 detailed in Game Informer
Set on ice planet Tau Volantis. No competitive multiplayer.

First details on Dead Space 3 have come out of the latest issue of Game Informer.

The co-op shooter, to be announecd on Monday during EA’s E3 press conference, is set on the ice planet Tau Volantis. It will have “zero gravity space sections, dark corridors, and all the other things that made the series what it is.” The game has more universal ammo pick-ups, a cover system, and nixes the competitive multiplayer feature. Co-op promises to add new cutscenes and interaction between Issac and his new partner Carver. But, “if you play single player you’ll hear everything you need to hear to get the whole story.”

New necromorphs include Fodders, Feeders, something developer Visceral calls “The Snow Beast,” and a 30-story tall centipede called the Nexus. Feeders are “what happens when a human isn’t actually infected by a Swarm or by a Divider head, but by necessity ends up eating the flesh of a turned necro.” Fodders can transform into two different types of necromorphs, depending on how you take them out. Unitologists are also a threat, now, with screenshots showing them firing at Issac.

You’ll be able to combine your weapons. For example, you can attach your Plasma Cutter to your Ripper. Visceral didn’t detail how these modifications would work, but the Game Informer article notes enemy drops include “scrap metal” and “tungsten.”

Expect more details on Monday.

Thanks, NeoGAF.

all of that sounds good to me :)

Just what a horror game needs to be more scary ^_^ A co-op partner! Look at how much scarier that made F.E.4.R-oh wait NO IT DIDN’T! It made it LESS scary -_-

@Kobracon:Are you from the future? I’m sure FE4R will suck, but it hasn’t been made yet. FE3R, on the other hand, did suck, but not just because it wasn’t scary. The single player sucked as well. And honestly, you can’t say adding another player makes it less scary when the best game in the series (FEAR 2) lets you fight in a mech for awhile. FEAR 3 does as well, but it just had such a rushed, unpolished feel (probably because they were making time/room for the coop). I do hope Dead Space 3 does not suffer in terms of quality just so they can add coop, but I don’t think it will be less scary for that reason.

@Traveller: pretty sure the second game had those too.
