Anarchy Reigns pushed to Q1 2013 [Update]

Platinum brawler still set for July 5 in Japan.

June 18, 2012 / 05:45 PM EDT / (@salromano)

Sega has confirmed on Twitter that Anarchy Reigns, Platinum Games’ multiplayer online brawler, will now launch for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in North America and Europe in the first quarter of 2013.

The game was previously dated for July 3 in North America and July 5 in Europe. An unspecified delay was confirmed late last month. Japan, however, will still get the game on July 5.

Platinum Games has previously said that localization for the title was complete, and that those who opt to import the Japanese version would be able to play the game in English. So one can only wonder why Sega’s created such a significant delay.

We’ll contact the publisher for comment.

Update / 6.19 / 12:03 p.m.: Sega’s responded to our request for information. Find their official statement below.

“Due to the on-going restructure through SEGA Europe and SEGA America, the release campaign for Anarchy Reigns has had to be re-evaluated. As such, we are now looking to launch the title in Europe and America in Quarter 1 of 2013. We look forward to gamers in the west experiencing the exhilarating action and unique vision of Anarchy Reigns upon its release.”

My only guess is that they didn’t have servers ready for MP. I’m sure it comes down to some kind of online related issue.

Sega should have been prepared… They didn’t even showcase the game at e3, so I guess I’m not surprised.

Why does Sega in the west constantly disappoint me? Very annoying…

@Zero: Hmm. Hopefully Sega mails me back so we can find out for sure!

@Sal Romano: i thought i sent in a message to gematsu saying something like this a while back?

I know i didn’t have links or anything official but, it could’ve been classified as a rumor and not completely ignored.

I don’t see why i’d make up lies about a game i’m looking forward too.

        • Sal Romano

@RoboShinKen: Sorry about that. I have a habit on not checking the tips e-mail as we rarely receive any. I ran into this problem before and told myself I’d address it. My apologies, Robo. Rest assured this won’t happen again.

@Sal Romano: its alright, i thought you didn’t post on it cause you thought it didn’t look real or that i was trollin’ or something.

I know your busy, so no problems. :3

@Sal Romano: I hope they email you back.

To clarify, my above comment is pure speculation. I don’t have any super mind reading powers or anything. (I wish I did!) :D

    Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kinda weird, considering that localization is supposedly done.

  • Genesis

I am so bummed but this is for the best. They need to start promoting here because I want the game to do ok. But ugh! 2013 is far lol

  • Skelter

well guys, time to overplay the demo >:{!

  • RyoonZ

I can wait and hope people have patient because if the sales of NA/EU version are bad maybe they won’t localize game anymore.

If i recall correctly didnt the SEGA’s N/A branch suffer from huge loss resulting in alot of its N/A employees losing their job? I wonder if this could have affected AR’s release date?

    • NCloud

@kiri25: That definitely had something to do with it. I asked Kamiya-san and he said Sega were afraid the game might not sell well in the west.

i knew it,Go to the Hell Sega :)

  • Rydak

Inaba tweeted that Platinum is completely in the dark about it; they found out yesterday, too. Does Sega even know what they’re doing anymore?

    • Rezar

@Rydak: I’d say Sega doesn’t know what they are doing anymore. They had the license to make Marvel Movie based games which Marvel took the license away from them.

  • Sal Romano

    Well. Sega responded.

So its as i assumed the major hit they took and lose of employees has apart to play in its delay.
