SCEA staffer resume mentions PlayStation 4

"Maintained voice chat library for PlayStation 4."

May 16, 2012 / 12:49 PM EDT / (@salromano)

Frederick Umminger, manger of software engineering at Sony Computer Entertainment America, has worked on PlayStation 4, according to his LinkedIn resume.

He managed a team of four engineers for the following tasks:

  • Maintained audio input and output libraries for PlayStation 3.
  • Maintained voice chat library for PlayStation 4.
  • Developed voice chat libraries for PlayStation Vita.
  • Investigated new audio technologies.

The existence of PlayStation 4, at this point, is transparent, especially with the lot of rumors recently. But more is more, I suppose.

Thanks, Supererogatory.

Hmm interesting. Won’t geek out until I see it in all its glory. I’ve still got plenty more to do on my PS3 for the time being.

Bring it [next year, not yet :)]!!!!!

Hope to heck we get backwards compatibility with something! Even if not PS2, but PS1 and PS3! Anything! Some sort of compromise that flies completely in contradiction to what we have seen so far. I just want backwards compatibility! Value proposition ftw!

      @rockman29:

Im hoping for BC too but I dont its Sony priority.

I hope Sony annouces it soon. I’m very interested to find out what Sony is doing with it.

I know it’s around the corner.

Seriously at this point Sony needs to hire someone for the express purpose of maintaining all company secrets.

@awaiken: Stuff about systems is always leaked about this a year to a couple years before release. It’s inevitable. And honestly, this is hardly revealing.

Hope it won’t be late 1 year like PS Vita or history will repeats itself…

The fact that the PS4 my use a AMD CPU it’s enough to not be interested on it. AMD Bulldozer was a dissapointment.

what does “Maintained voice chat library for PlayStation 4.” even mean?

As much as I would love to see backwards compatibility, don’t count on it.

I recall not long ago, when asked about the lack of backwards compatibility on the vita, Sony responded with a surprising answer.

According to Sony, bc was not something most consumers were interested in regarding the vita.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they say the same thing when the PS4 does finally come out.

The question is, where do they get this info? I suppose it’s from those surveys they send out sometimes?
