In development at Mercury Steam, claims source.

Konami is developing a new Castlevania for 3DS called Castlevania: Mirror of Fate, according to a N1ntendo.nl source.

The publisher will supposedly announce the title at E3 next month. According to a NeoGAF member with knowledge of the title, it is a 2D game developed by Castlevania: Lords of Shadow studio Mercury Steam.

Adding more fuel to the fire, domain name registrations uncovered tonight – Castlevania-MirrorOfFate.com and Castlevania-MirrorOfFate.net – further signal at its release.

    Hopefully this is true! As a user pointed out in the GT forums though, it’s unlikely that a 2D title is being developed by the team who worked on LoS, knowing the 2D games are usually produced by Koga Igarashi.

    looks like castlevania is the new silent hill….

    • howardmoonish

      @neku: That makes no sense.

        @howardmoonish: I think I get what he means. A Japanese made franchise taken over by a Western developer. Regardless, I’m gonna be SOOOO psyched for this if its the return of the true Metroidvania style.

          @Traveller:
          I still personally think it doesn’t make any sense to have the team which made LoS working on this game when they were hired specifically to work on LoS/reboot the Castlevania series, which they already did. If this is indeed a metroidvania game, then the team working on it would be none other than the group of folks which got us at the very least the three DS Castlevania games, and Aria of Sorrow on the GBA. I’m guessing someone caught wind of the new Castlevania game being made for the 3DS, and someone felt the need to lump rumours together and decide on who would “possibly” be the development team working on this; well, since LoS was the last released Castlevania game, it’s likely that someone simply thought it would make sense the group who brought us LoS would return to work on this. So, all in all, take all of this with a truckload of salt. I’ll eat my own words if I’m wrong, but I still think it’s rather unlikely that if we are getting a new Metroidvania game on the 3DS, it will be pieced together by the LoS team and not the dudes who gave us the previous metroidvania titles.

          Or maybe all of this is no more than wishful thinking on my part :( I hope I don’t end up disappointed in the end.

    A user in GT told me the rumoured protagonist is none other than Trevor Belmont :D I should know better than to trust everything I read online, but….gawd, I’d want that to be true so bad, and I can’t help but feel excited about it.

    Yes yes!!
    A Metroidvania gameplay is the best!!

  • Malcolm Reynolds

    This makes no sense.
    I love the Metroidvania formula but shouldnt the team that made the others make this one?
    Shouldt the CLoS team be working on a fecking CLoS part deux?

    • FaithlessMr

      @Malcolm Reynolds:
      That’s why I also find part of this rumour to be untrue :P Or at least I hope that’s the case.

      If it is indeed the LoS team working on this, then a metroidvania we will not get, but rather something new. And yeah, the LoS team is rumoured to be working on part two of the game.

    The rumors state its 2d and like the ds titles so I am sure igarashi is involved

    One important detail I hope they concentrate on; the MUSIC.
