PlayStation Network introduces pre-loading

Sorcery the first to use the system.

Similar to Steam, Sony will introduce pre-loading to the PlayStation Store, allowing users to purchase and download certain games, which will not be activated until release day.

The first game to make use of the system is The Workshop’s PlayStation Move-enabled Sorcery, due for PlayStation 3 at retail and through PlayStation Network next Tuesday. Consumers will be able to purchase and pre-download the game prior to its release, and have it ready for play as soon as it launches.

Thanks, Gamasutra.

This is a great addition to psn.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see it become really popular, lots of people pre-load games on steam.

Ill still buy physical copies.I like owning things.

Might be interesting for high profile games, be able to just start playing on RD, but I don’t know how many gamers just can’t wait for Sorcery so bad that they HAVE to pre-load it.

Why pre-load when you can get it day one anyways? why pay sooner xD the value of money goes down with time so giving them money sooner is only good for them while you get nothing in exchange.

Should take the same ammount of time for me to buy the game day one or pre-buy it wth xD.

@zakou: Pre-load would equal midnight play.

@Sal Romano: *looks at Diablo 3* no thanks xD no need for midnight play ^^ jk

Nice feature but not for me. I like to physically buy my games :)

I dont want psn only games that bad, and if it’s not psn only then i’ll get it physically ^^

Preloading reduces the load on Sony’s network. I don’t know how much it does, but spreading out the period of time when people are going to be most using the service (on releases of games and such) is a good thing.

Good effort Sony. Want to see more improvements to your network. I don’t know if I can say they are lagging behind, but definitely would like to say they should be looking to make networking and online services a strength instead of a weakness.

Its about time a feature like this is added… When I bought the Witcher 2 from gog it was nice to start playing at release.
