Bethesda is bringing id Software’s DOOM 3 to the current generation. The publisher today announced it will release DOOM 3 BFG Edition, which includes DOOM 3 and the Resurrection of Evil add-on pack, for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC this fall. Remastered in high-definition, it marks the first time a DOOM title has appeared on PlayStation 3.

The remaster promises “greatly enhanced graphics” and ‘deep immersion,’ as well as a “never-before-seen single-player story” dubbed ‘The Lost Mission’, featuring seven new “heart-pounding” levels. The game has been optimized in 3D, features 5.1 surround sound, achievements / trophies, improved rendering and lighting, and a new check point save system to allow for smoother progression through the game.

DOOM 3 was enthusiastically embraced by gamers worldwide at its release,” said John Carmack, Technical Director at id Software. “Today, the full experience has been enhanced and extended to be better than ever, and is delivered across all the platforms with a silky smooth frame rate and highly responsive controls. New support for 3D TVs, monitors, and head mounted displays also allows players to experience the game with more depth than ever before. We think shooter fans everywhere will love it.”

DOOM 3 BFG Edition will also include the original DOOM and DOOM 2. Watch the debut trailer below.

Doom 3 is the worst of the Doom games so that’s the one they’re bringing to consoles eh?

Will it come with the duct tape mod so we don’t have to scrounge around in the dark like idiots to see where the hell we’re going and where the monsters we’re supposed to shoot are?

Man that game was a disappointment. :(

@FearMonkey: “where the hell we’re going and where the monsters we’re supposed to shoot are?”

That’s the fun part from Doom 3, IMO.

@Noctionus: I know they did it that way to make it more scary or to increase the suspense and dread or whatever. But it did not have that effect on me. All it did was irritate me. Meanwhile Wolfenstein 3D is 100 times scarier than Doom 3 and it has all brightly-lit corridors and all it took was directional audio to make me feel that sense of dread. (I played it with headphones. So awesome.)

Seriously, if it wasn’t for that duct tape mod, I would not have finished Doom 3.

    From the press release:

“DOOM 3 now features the new armour-mounted flashlight, allowing players to illuminate dark corners and blast enemies at the same time”

    :D
