Mass Effect 3 sold approximately 890,000 units during its first day of sales in North America, EA has revealed.
“We anticipated it doing well, so we’re happy,” said EA boss John Rccitiello during today’s Wedbust Technoloy, Media, and Telecommunications Conference in New York City (via VentureBeat).
GameStop reports that 40 percent of its customers that purchased the game also purchased the day-one download content. “The tie ratio at the register is the highest in their history”, said Riccitiello.
Mass Effect 3 is available for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
Update: EA has sent out an official press release. The BioWare-developed RPG has shipped 3.5 million units worldwide.
“We have been truly humbled by the amazing response from fans and critics for Mass Effect 3,” said Dr. Ray Muzyka, Co-Founder of BioWare and General Manager of EA’s BioWare Label. “The game is a gripping, engaging experience where the decisions and choices you make will truly stay with you for the months and years ahead. We are all incredibly proud of Casey Hudson and the teams in Edmonton and Montreal for delivering the best game BioWare has ever made.”
