First concept art. Expected this fall.

In April last year, EA and FUNimation announced it would create an anime feature film based on the Mass Effect franchise. At SXSW this year, Dailymotion spoke to FUNimation’s Justin Rojas, who revealed first story details and artwork surrounding the title.

Mass Effect: Paragon Lost, as it’s titled, dives into the backstory of James Vega, who you may know as one of your new squad mates in Mass Effect 3.

“He’s done some epic things,” said Rojas. “You just haven’t been able to see it in the game yet.”

FUNimation is working closely alongside EA and BioWare on the movie. Rojas estimates it will release around fall.

The first concept art of the film can be seen in the Dailymotion exclusive clip.

Hahaha. James Vega is easily the worst character they could have chosen. Typical meathead that I stopped using as soon as possible in mass effect 3.

I had my reservations about what this anime would turn out to be like, but now I have no interest in it at all.

It’s preposterous how Bioware keeps pushing the Vega character the way they do. He is without a doubt the most boring squadmate in the game. They could have made an anime about any of the other nonhumans’ pasts. What was Thane’s life as a Hanar asssassin like before meeting Shepard? What was it like for Javik growing up during the Prothean war with the Reapers, fleeing from colony to colony? How did Samara first find out she was Ardat Yakshi and how did she deal with the inevitable prejudice that followed?

But nooooo, let’s learn more about the overmuscled human marine with a tattoo who comes from a broken family on earth, because that’s apparently more interesting…

    Which animation Studio does this?
