Famitsu.com has gone live with its online preview of Etrian Odyssey IV, releasing the first direct-feed screenshots to the web.

In Etrian Odyssey IV, players create and name their own character, assign him / her a job, and battle with a party of five. Unlike previous Etrian Odyssey games, in which monsters were shown as sprites, in Etrian Odyssey IV monsters are built with 3D polygons. Nizou Yamamoto, who is known for his work at Studio Ghibli, is doing background art for the RPG.

    not sure how to feel about the 3d models… it removes a lot of the impact of the art style. Maybe if they implemented cel-shading that aped anime a la Valkyria Chronicles, it would fit more in line with what the game’s going for.

      @gold163:
      At first I didn’t like the 3D models, but I feel I’m getting used to them the more I look at ‘em.
