Rumor: Monster Hunter for PS Vita due this year, 3DS Lite in development
Rumors from Trendy Magazine.
by [@salromano] at 11:06 AM EDT, January 4, 2012 .

Nikkei Trendy, a Japanese magazine, has reported in its latest issue that an industry insider has told it Capcom will release a Monster Hunter game on PlayStation Vita in the second half of the year.

It also reports that a “3DS Lite” is in the works, and will be thinner and have better battery life.

Nikkei does have some backing. Before their announcements, it previoulsy rumored Nintendo’s Wii U to include a 6-inch touchscreen, camera, and mid-2012 release; 3G and an OLED touchscreen for PlayStation Vita (or PSP2, before the name was announced); a gaming phone under Sony; and Wii Fit Plus and Super Mario Bros. Wii.

Ive been waiting for a redesign to justify my 3DS purchase, but unless it has a larger screen and a built in 2nd Thumb pad Im not that interested. Id also like region locking to be abolished but that quite obviously wont happen.

  4. Unless my ambassador games can be re-downloaded onto a redesigned 3DS than it loses some incentive for me to buy it. I would still consider buying it if the 3D is a bit better and they implement the second analog nub in the design but I would probably focus on the e-shop with my 3DS with the ambassador titles.

I am saying all this but the games are on the memory card? Hmm…

@Keegs79: I’m pretty sure that the games are bound by an invisible 3DS shop account that’s on every 3DS. I think I recall Nintendo stating that 3DS shop purchases are transferable between consoles, but I’m not exactly sure and I think it would require you to phone in on tech support for them to do that anyway. I don’t have a 3DS, so correct me if I’m wrong, but I have no reason to believe it works any differently than on the Wii.

Not having an accessible account based storefront is Nintendo’s biggest weakness in the online department, in my opinion. It’s what’s holding them back the most since the Wii. The problem isn’t with having a unified networking interface, since that isn’t even necessary; it’s making sure your customers feel their purchases are valuable and transferable. Part of me thinks that Nintendo just doesn’t have the balls to be responsible for consumer personal information like credit card numbers and such. The end result is a digital storefront that’s immensely inconvenient and doesn’t give you value to your purchases, since they only exist on one system.

MH on Vita sounds good to me. Also… why are “lite” versions of consoles coming out sooner and sooner? The 3DS isn’t even a year old yet and it’s getting a lite version? 0_o Pretty soon we’ll see system launches and a new model every 6 months …. oh wait… phone are kinda like that now… :S

@hush404: the 3DS was flawed from the start.

I am quite enjoying my daughters pink 3DS though…..it is perfect for her to learn to love gaming on. When she is ready I will upgrade her to a real gaming device like the Vita!

        @Malcolm Reynolds:
I’m aware you’re a fan of Sony (nothing wrong about that, at least in my book, I used to like Sony a whole lot, and still do even tho they took some decisions concerning the Vita and their online/PSN services which I find stupid to put it bluntly, but which still don’t waver my respect for the company itself or it’s gaming division), but….is it really necessary to treat the 3DS like a “kiddies” system or “learning wheels for gaming” just because it doesn’t have a Sony logo slapped on it?

I think you’re loosing up on a lot of great games because of your brand loyalty (or at least the one you show to have on your comments). I also think others can find your comment aggravating. I have a 3DS, I am 24years old, and I’ve been gaming since 1989. I don’t think I’m suddenly a little kid who needs to get ready for gaming with a “real gaming device” soon? :/

@FaithlessMr: hey man….I rather like you. I think you display tact and solid reasoning when you express your opinion.

My comment was not meant to offend….more so that I am looking forward to my daughter growing as a gamer and playing bigger more “grown up” games is all.
I still adore “kiddie” games. I for one wont miss out on any good 3DS titles. Im stoked for Luigis Mansion 2, Kid Icarus Uprising, that Brave Story game?!?!? looks stunning, Kingdom Hearts 3DS, etc etc.
IMO the 3DS is very cute and perfect for my 5 yr old as nothing else has piqued her interest as far as gaming is concerned outside of Wii bowling until the 3DS has come along. Ironically she could care less about the childish Nintendogs and Cats but cant stay away from Dead or Alive Dimensions!

Do I think youre a kid for owning and playing a 3DS?
No. I’m 32 and play with my daughters pink 3DS from time to time
I wouldbe embarassed to be caught in public playing it unlike the PSP or Vita however

There is nothing wrong with kiddie games and theres nothing wrong with Nintendo owning that market. I personally enjoy a larger selection of gameplay options is all.

You expressed concern that my comment could annoy others. If that is the case…others should stop taking the internetz so seriously.

When MH launches on the Vita the sales issues in Japan will be null and void and all the IGN/Gamespot/insert every other US gamesite name here….can stop the doomsaying and focus on more important stuff……like the sales gap between the 3DS and the VITA!

LOL….b/c heaven forbid the media focus on games anymore. We have been groomed to ignore games and focus on sales numbers and multiplats…….amirite?

@Malcolm Reynolds: I hardly think the Vita is doomed. People are passing judgment too early. People thought the 3DS was doomed, but it was able to bounce right back. What confused me about the Japanese launch figures is that the Vita had such a killer launch lineup (one of the best launch lineups I’ve seen), and that it didn’t pull through as well as I thought it would.

But hey, if Forbes is right and Sony actually drops the price to compete, I won’t complain. It just means more sales for them and less money out of my pocket. Just beware of CNET’s analysis (‘Vita is in so much trouble it probably won’t come out in North America!’).

As for the whole 3DS thing – I don’t see why you should be embarrassed playing one in public. I mean, it’s a game system that plays games. Vita is the same. I’m sure the world won’t judge you by what system your playing. And even if it did, you shouldn’t really care. =P

@Sal Romano: I agree completely…… 2.5 weeks on the market in a region that only makes up for about 20% of the gaming consumer market is just a wee bit soon to pass judgement on success or failure.

In the first two days the VITA sold about 65% of it’s launch shipment of 500k units. Sony was said to up the shipments to 700k but those extra 200k did not ship on before launch day as far as I can recall.

That being said……65% of 500k is still over half of the projected 700k in the first 2 days…..the first full week tallied up to about 400k…..lets say by then all 700k planned to ship at launch were on store shelves by then…..that leaves about 300k on the market and a large majority of those were the 3G models which were more costly not counting the need for a monthly 3G plan. I am guessing a lot of people prefer the wifi model much like I and many others I know do as well.

It’s hard to compare 2 different models with two different sets of needs being catered to, to the 3DS which only had 1 model and 1 price point. IMO that is.

        Anyway….thanks for the laugh Sal….CNET……oh CNET……LOL.

AND as far as being embarrassed to be caught playing “my” 3DS in public……perhaps I forgot to mention it belongs to my 5 year old daughter and it is PINK!!!! A 32 year old man should not have anything PINK!
