4J in talks with Microsoft over constant Minecraft updates
Microsoft "see it as the future."The Xbox LIVE Arcade version of Minecraft will feature constant updates, if developer 4J Studios has its way.
Speaking with the latest issue of Edge Magazine, chief technology officer Paddy Burns said it’s currently in talks with Microsoft to allow constant updates for the game – much like PC games – rather than Microsoft having to thoroughly test each update.
“Microsoft knows that to do a similar thing that’s on PC where they constantly update it, that’s a very difficult thing to do on Xbox because you have to go through the full tests,” he told Edge (via Gamasutra).
“But they are quite keen to move towards that – they do see it as the future, so I think we might be the first to do constant updates.”
Minecraft will launch for Xbox LIVE Arcade later this year.
