No, The Last Guardian is not canceled
Team Ico title still in development.

If you pre-ordered your copy of The Last Guardian at GameStop, you may have received a message for disappointment today. GameStop called pre-consumers to alert them of their pre-order termination, claiming the game had been canceled by the publisher. This is not true.

Following the story break, GameStop issued the following statement.

The Last Guardian has not been cancelled by Sony as we incorrectly stated in an automated call to reservation customers. Because the game did not have a specific release date, GameStop made the decision to remove the game from our system. The Last Guardian will be reinstated for pre-order when a firm launch date is known.”

Thanks, IGN.

gamestop just dumb for literally phrasing it as “Cancelled” in their automated message

@Kougeru: GameStop is just dumb in general. I haven’t shopped there since they screwed me over on my launch Xbox360 pre-order. They gave it to someone else cuz they only got in 6. I was like the 2nd person to reserve one at that store and they gave mine to someone else because they got there before me on launch day. I hate GameStop.

@FearMonkey: Shoulda demanded shit from them right then and there for screwing with you. When I made a pre-order from newegg for Dark Souls Collectors Edition that they actually never got any of, they gave me a 20 dollar coupon for any game they sold, they didn’t fuck around in expressing how sorry they were.

@KainArkanos: I told them that unless they made amends for it, it was the last time I was ever going to shop at GameStop ever again. And they said they wanted to do something for me but their corporate overlords wouldn’t allow them to. So they said next shipment they would for sure reserve it for me and call me when it’s in. That’s all they could do. So the day I picked it up I told them they’d never see me again and they haven’t. I keep my word. *shrug*

EDIT: For the record, I have gone to other GameStops to get my free Pokemon, just not that store. :p

@FearMonkey: Shame you had such bad experiences. I personally only buy new things from them, and only on launch day. Even though they’re not supposed to anymore, my brother that worked there until a few months ago said the employees STILL play games and sell them as “new”. The only game I bought used there was Star Ocean 4 International because i couldnt find it anywhere else. I wish there was more options for games in physical stores :\

@Kougeru: Heh, whenever I buy anything from Gamestop from now on that is new, I plan to bring my father simply because he is a VERY persuasive person. That and he knows perfectly when the game case isn’t in its original plastic wrap, which means it has been opened and checked for stuff to steal out like coupons and whatnot or things like what was in Deus Ex for a free download of the game for any system. He’ll persuade them very well to understand what happens if he’s been cheated out of anything.

As a writer for this website, and a former GameStop employee, I approve these comments. Plus 1 to all.

And yes I have been screwed by GameStop multiple times but I hold no ill thoughts or feelings towards them. They are Human just like us, and make mistakes just like you and me.

And then, Gamestop will send out a message claiming Versus XIII had been canceled by the publisher, because the game did not have a specific release date. It has been more than 4 years ;)
