This week’s Famitsu confirmed a new .hack game in development. Its title and platform are still to be announced, but the magazine teases more information to arrive shortly after .hack//Sekai no Mukou Ni‘s (a CG movie) Japanese theatrical release on January 21.
Famitsu interviewed CyberConnect2 CEO Hiroshi Matsuyama, who shared first details on the game.
According to Matsuyama, the character in the screenshot may or may not be .hack//GU‘s Haseo. Asked by Famitsu if the character is indeed the GU star, Matsuyama teased that he could not yet say. Different from GU, however, Matsuyama said the new game will reach for a more photo realistic style.
Development on the project initially began around the same time the CG movie. The game is set a year after the movie, in the year 2025, so the two may be related.

Heh… it would be quite ironic for this to release on the 360 considering the in-jokes the initial hacks had saying the virus that destroyed the net was transferred through a certain wide spread OS called only ‘w’ which caused the net to die.
First day buy for me… hopefully this game does reach America this time. I’m still sad (and bitter) about LINK.

The World’s character customization, I’ve come to believe, totally blows. Why else would every new installment completely and utterly recycle old character models, even when completely different players are almost always behind them? I’m sure that this is intended as a throwback to the previous entries in the series (and whether or not this is actually Haseo is unconfirmed), but at this point, it’s just become tedious. The up and coming movie will start the 345th Kite.

This announcement made my day. I adore the G.U. games, so seeing some form of a related game (just the fact that there’s Haseo’s PC) is amazing news. I just hope the game will end up getting localized.
