Yakuza 5 is of ‘massive’ scale
New tidbits from Weekly Famitsu.

Early leaks from this week’s Famitsu revealed Yakuza 5 to be a PlayStation 3 title starring series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu throughout five different cities. New leaks have further detailed the game, which is said to be of ‘massive’ scale.

The five cities—Kamurocho, Sapporo, Nagoya, Osaka and Fukuoka—will be the same size, or larger than, the previous Osaka and Okinawa locations. The game itself will feature shorter load times, better camerawork, and more detailed character expressions. Battles and conversation will be seamless, according to series creator Toshihiro Nagoshi.

If the series were compared to construction, said Nagoshi, Yakuza 5 would be the creation of a brand-new house, where previous Yakuza titles were extensions to an existing house.

Yakuza 5 is a direct sequel to Yakuza 4, meaning none of the events in Yakuza: Of the End, the series’ zombie-themed spin-off, will have meaning.

Masayoshi Yokoyama is producing. The game is still early in development. A date has yet to be announced.

      Definitely gonna buy this when it’s released!

      @Charlie: You should get 4, the story in Yakuza 4 good! Somehow all of the 4 main characters are link in a way, and in a very interesting way :D

        @EspadaKiller: Seconded on the 4 bit. Haven’t played it yet, myself, but my brother’s beaten every Yakuza, and after beating 4, called me excited to tell me how the ending made him ‘make a mess.’

        @EspadaKiller: Will do!

    Love the series, and will definately be picking up. It will definately benefit from this facelift imo as well, as 4 was edging slightly towards the expected in some ways.

    The combat needs a lot of improvement, the controls as well. I’m happy he’s redoing a lot.

    I’m excited for this game.

    I hope there is a lot to explore! Yakuza 2 had the most unique locations out of all the past Yakuza games, I really enjoyed exploring new areas in this one. Sounds great to have many new places :)

    I think Yakuza 1 and 2 are still my favourites, even though 3 and 4 were so damn fun too.
