Resident Evil: Revelations costs $50

Capcom explains why.

Resident Evil: Revelations will be priced a bit higher than most 3DS games. Whereas you can pick up Super Mario 3D Land this fall for $40, you can pick up Revelations early next year for $50.

Why is Revelations priced $10 higher? Capcom explains.

Resident Evil: Revelations is an all new Resident Evil title with over 20 hours of gameplay, and cutscenes beautifully rendered in fear-inducing 3D,” a Capcom rep told Kotaku. “A true console experience on a handheld device, Resident Evil: Revelations is an epic title that offers both a single-player campaign for that classic survival horror gaming experience, and an additional RAID mode that can be played cooperatively or single player. To handle all of that data Resident Evil: Revelations requires a 4GB cartridge, resulting in a higher price point.”

Resident Evil: Revelations is due on February 7, 2012 in North America and on January 27 in Europe.

Seriously…? I don’t personally get it. That was a rather unnecessary remark from the Capcom’s rep. I understand everything else justifying the price, but implying the experience in handheld gaming is inferior to that of home consoles is something I don’t understand, more so when both handhelds and home consoles have great games that shine in their own right, thus offering great experiences in both sides of the spectrum.

Sorry the larger cartridge cost us 50 cents more so we had to balance it out by charging you 9.50 more… Thanks guys! Oh and we made a better game than Nintendo themselves so remember why our game cost more than Mario! We put effort into our game like, console effort!

I wonder how this pans out in the UK. As it stands, most 3DS games are charged at £39.99 in retail shops, which is exactly the same price as a full console game. I shouldnt need to explain that so far, the price has put me off buying many games for the system at all, seeing as they are NOT up to the standard of console releases. Shame, in a way.
