Update: Here are some of Famitsu’s thoughts on Ni no Kuni, courtesy of the same source:

  • Can be cleared in 40-50 hours. It mentions something about 100 hours and “yarikomi,” but I’m not quite sure as to what exactly.
  • Animation is nice to watch. Attractive scenario.
  • Highly strategic puzzles.
  • Smooth transitions from animation to gameplay.
  • Excellent atmosphere—easy to figure out what you’re supposed to do next.
  • Though it feels highly complete, it feels like it’s lacking in terms of new ideas.
  • The fact that any person of any age can get into Ni no Kuni is a plus.

I am surprised that Famitsu scores Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 39/40, which is pretty rare for a Western game to be scored highly. Regardless, I am looking forward Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch next year.

@Chaos Raiden: That actually worries me. BF3′s score too…

lol @ MW3 scoring higher than Ni no ku ni. Famitsu has been handing out near perfect reviews like hot cakes in a bakery opening day. I’m sorry but nowadays I find it hard to give Famitsu review scores any credibility.

There goes a time when Famitsu reviews meant a whole lot. Regardless of any of that, it’s nice seeing ni no ku ni being treated to such a nice reception, review wise, so hopefully other reviews will praise the game as well and more importantly, it will sell enough for it to become a huge hit domestically, and who knows, internationally, when the time comes :)

    COD 39/40, seriously?
Just when I thought Famitsu GENERALLY handed out great reviews.

Ni No Kuni sounds great. Love what I’m hearing in the review.

  • NCloud

I can’t wait to play Ni no Kuni and MW3.

I don’t get why people get so upset when a game they have no interest in gets a high score. People just love to hate.

    • Charlie

@NCloud: The main reason to that is COD is such an overrated, generic game that gets an amazing amount of hype. While other games that can be named masterpieces in their own right are left un-played. Quite moronic to be honest.

      • NCloud

        @Charlie:
A game you call masterpiece may be crap to another person. I enjoy both games, COD is good fun with friends and Ni no Kuni is good for some alone time. From my point of view there is no such thing as a masterpiece game. Take Shadow of Colossus, regarded by many as the best PS2 game but there are still many who don’t like it and think its way overrated.

        • Charlie

@NCloud: I’m pretty sure SOTC isn’t overrated, far from it, considering it hasn’t even gone platinum once. From my point of view there are such thing as “masterpieces”. Games that are unique and ambitious, sport a gorgeous art design and most important of all, being able to emotionally connect with the game and it’s characters (which many games fail at achieving).

    Western game invasion ?

Famitsu can suck it. Their scores haven’t meant anything since about the time this generation started.
