Square Enix is coming to New York Comic-Con, and they’re bringing Final Fantasy XIII-2 with them, along with a few other titles. That includes Wakfu, Heroes of Ruin, Dead Island, and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Square has planned a list of events for the show, including an “East Meets West: Art Direction for a Worldwide Audience” panel on Friday, October 14 at 10:45 a.m. Moderated by former Newsweek senior writer N’Gai Croal, it will feature an in-depth discussion between Final Fantasy XIII-2 art director Isamu Kamikokuryo and Deus Ex: Human Revolution art director Jean Jacques-Bellete. I’ll be there live blogging.

Additionally, other Square Enix events include:

  • Friday, Oct. 14, (2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.): Fans can participate in Tomb Raider‘s 15th anniversary celebration by attending an exclusive signing session featuring urban contemporary artist Camilla d’Errico. Attendees can stop by the Square Enix booth to receive a free 5×7 art print and autograph featuring d’Errico’s unique interpretation of Tomb Raider, a franchise that has sold over 35 million copies worldwide as of Oct. 2011.
  • Thursday-Sunday, Oct. 13-16 (all day): The Final Fantasy XIII-2 “Word to Your Moogle” tour embarks on its third and last stop at New York Comic Con, where fans can enter to win event-exclusive prizes. The leaderboard and official contest rules can be found at www.wordtoyourmoogle.com. The contest will run every day during show hours at the Square Enix booth.
  • Friday, Oct. 14, (8 p.m. to 10 p.m.): Square Enix teams up with Machinima and Destructoid to celebrate the January 31 launch of Final Fantasy XIII-2. Attendees of the event at Tonic Bar (727 7th Ave., Times Square) will be treated to drinks as well as exclusive swag and the chance to win premium prizes during the Final Fantasy trivia contest.
  • Friday, Oct. 14, (11 a.m. and 1 p.m.), Saturday and Sunday Oct. 15-16 (11 a.m. and 2 p.m.): Heroes of Ruin fans can receive a free poster signed by Adi Granov, the cover artist for Heroes of Ruin, whose most notable works include the Iron Man: Extremis series and the Iron Man films. With the poster, you’ll also be entered into a raffle to win a free Nintendo 3DS at the end of the day, Friday through Sunday!

Stay tuned. We’ll be covering Comic-Con thoroughly this year.

I want to see more of Tomb Raider. The hype and coverage surrounding that game really subsided after E3.

@Pirate King: Why would they show VS at NYCC? It wasn’t even at TGS…Excited for it also but that’s a no brainer

    • AuroraXIII

@Pirate King: Square Enix are not ready to hype them just yet.
Wait for FFXIII-2 be released first, and maybe then we’ll talk.

“including an “East Meets West: Art Direction for a Worldwide Audience” panel on Friday, October 14 at 10:45 a.m”.

Ugh. This westernization/easternazation vs globalization trend needs to stop. Devs should just keep on making what they always did. I still haven’t got over the fact that we ended up with an awful Nier main character because of this whole “westernization-globalization trend”. The game was awesome but it was such a buzzkill to be in control of such an out of place character in name of “artistic globalizattion”.

Anyway, looking forward to that liveblog Sal, I’m curious about what they’ll have to say.

@FaithlessMr: Adult Nier is the only thing stopping me from trying that game. I was hoping the other day that Square Enix would announce an enhanced Vita port that includes all DLC + bonus content, and allows you to play as either young/adult Nier.

I don’t know who decided to transform Nier into a God of War try-hard in the West, but its an absolute turn off.

        @AuroraXIII:
I felt the same about it before actually going out and getting the game, and I don’t regret doing so; the game is good and fun, and I hope they actually make a franchise out of NieR and start pouring in some sequels and related projects because it has potential to be much more.

Now, I won’t lie either, the character feels completely out of place. But you get used to it. The game is so fun and the story is so compelling that you actually get over it. But I can’t stop but wonder how much better it would be if we were at least given a choice, yes. Still, don’t let that get to ya if you really want to play the game; you’ll see it’s worth it even tho the main character design sucks.
