Level-5 trademarks Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch in America

U.S. release keeping Ni no Kuni title?

October 2, 2011 / 01:03 PM EDT / (@salromano)

Ni no Kuni is coming to North America in early 2012. That much we know. What we didn’t know was what it’ll be called when it gets here. Thanks to a U.S. trademark filing by Level-5 discovered today, we might now know.

Level-5 trademarked the name Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch on September 29, 2011 in the United States. That’s right. It’ll keep its Japanese Ni no Kuni title.

Our Take: We love them, but Level-5 is crazy to market a game called Ni no Kuni in the west. We wish them the best of luck.

Thanks, Reddit.

    I think its cool their keeping its japanese name. Hopefully the wait wont be too bad. I would to know if they will do another. This game looks so fantastic and its just charming.

      @FinalFantasy_fangirl: I do, too (I like the name), but I worry for its success without a proper translation.

      Any of these would market better in the west:

      - Second Land: Wrath of the White Witch
      - Second World: Wrath of the White Witch
      - Another Land: Wrath of the White Witch
      - New Land: Wrath of the White Witch

        @Sal Romano:

        Thats true… I want this game to have much success because I want more like it. What about
        Ni No Kuni Wrath of the White Witch…..

        @Sal Romano: Are you sure sal? all those sound generic to me. Ni no kuni seems unique as a name, even if it is in japanese… in terms of branding, i think it’s better.

        @Sal Romano:

        Lets be honest. People are either going to buy Ni-No-Kuni or they arn’t. The title won’t change that.

      @FinalFantasy_fangirl:

      Sorry I was on the phone while typing… What Imeant was
      Ni No Kuni at the top in gold
      New World Wrath of the White Witch.
      We probably wont get the Logo as the cover because here it has to look exciting!…

    This is definitely a day one. Level 5 have my support

    I hope it sells well….
    Kids will eventually get bored of COD, right?

    Erm… well.. it’s odd… but look at the type of game it is… it’s not like general CoD players are going to touch it regardless of name :P At least those interested in JRPGs will see merit in it’s title.

    I think Another World would be good, but I don’t care at this point. I haven’t had an RPG yet, and there’s a lot to be made up for after FF XIII… *anger*

    • Sal Romano

      @rockman29: Another World is a great name, but the problem is that it already belongs to a classic.

        @Sal Romano: Totally forgot about that, read about it a few times on PCGamer, that’s about all I know about it. Definitely remember that boxart though.
