Monster Hunter is coming to 3DS. This week’s Famitsu has the reveal.

Monster Hunter Tri G is a port of Wii’s Monster Hunter Tri. It’ll offer local wireless play and retain water elements from the original game. Tapping the bottom screen will make your character turn around and face larger monsters.

Monster Hunter Tri G will launch in Japan this year. It will be playable at the Tokyo Game Show later this month.

Famitsu also revealed a circle pad add-on peripheral for 3DS, which snaps on to the bottom of the system, and literally adds a analog stick to the right side of the face buttons. The attachment has an extra shoulder button on it, giving the handheld a total of three: L, R, and the peripheral’s new “R2,” as we’ll call it. Famitsu lists price and release date as TBA. Here’s what it looks like:

LOL at that setup :D I was wonder just what kind of MH the 3DS would be getting (after hearing rumors). The fact that it’s a port of Tri (which I own for my Wii) just means I still yet have a reason to get a 3DS. MH3 for the Vita is what I’m pumped for (will skip it all together on PSP). Or the HD ver… hmm… choices….

That peripheral looks very big and uncomfortable.

The add-on undermines the handheld. I think it was a terrible idea. It hasn’t been a year and already we are getting a add-on. I feel its a bit of a desperation move since the Vita got a lot of praise for dual analog sticks and the sales of the 3DS have been underwelming. Nintendo is just alienating its fans. Its a slap in the face with the price drop and now something as obscure as this pops up. Its like the motion plus with the Wii all over again!
