Dragon Quest X in development for six years

And you thought Final Fantasy XIII took long?

September 7, 2011 / 05:44 PM EDT / (@salromano)

When Dragon Quest X is released on Wii next year, it will complete a seven-year development period. That is, according to former Square Enix employee Takehko Hoashi, who shared the game’s current six-year development time on Twitter today.

Hoashi pondered whether or not Square Enix will actually release it in 2011, given the game’s less than astounding reaction.

Oddly enough, his tweet has since been removed. Either by himself or by the shuriken of Square Enix ninja.

Thanks, Hachimaki.

This kinda makes me wonder…if it has been so long in development (after VIII’s release, way before IX’s development started I believe), then there’s a chance this was actually s’possed to be a DQ MMO spinoff rather than a numbered title.

Or it was meant to be DQ IX but was then postponed in favor of the actual DQ IX DS game we got. Either way, I’m inclined to think the first is actually true, but this is just me wild guessing.
