Beyond the Labyrinth gameplay details
Exit the labyrinth with your female companion.

This week’s issue of Famitsu has a two-page spread on Beyond the Labyrinth, tri-Ace’s 3DS dungeon RPG, revealing the first ever gameplay details.

The main character is you, the player. The girl we’ve seen so often in past media is not the main character, but your companion. She accompanies you as you make your way to the top floor of the labyrinth, where your goal is to escape. Progressing through the dungeon, a map will be drawn out on the lower screen.

Climbing floors, you’ll encounter enemies and switch to battle mode. Players can have up to a party of four, though who exactly those other party members are hasn’t been revealed. As of yet, only the girl has been shown.

View the scans below. Beyond the Labyrinth is listed as TBD for 3DS.

Thanks, Hachimaki.

          @mdemolish: Why? There’s nothing bad about this game (so far from what I’ve heard).

    It looks great to me.

    Although I am not a fan of dungeon rpgs myself, this game looks stunning, and Tri-Ace has yet to disappoint me.

    I might give this a try and get past the whole “not my thing” feeling I have about this sub genre of rpgs.

      @FaithlessMr: It’s sad that they were downgraded to portable though. They could still do like Radiant Historia, Dark Souls or Xenoblade and continue Valkyrie Profile under another IP if SE isn’t up for it… like “Odin Profile” or “Valkyrie Legend” or I something more inspired. And SO 4 was such a mess I dont want another SO too soon.

        @Mousse Effect:
        Problem is, I don’t see SE giving up one of their franchises to Tri-Ace just like that. They’re like Namco Bandai: We don’t do anything with the franchise and we won’t let anyone else get it from us.

        Also, I don’t see how a handheld is worse than a console game ;) I understand the logic though, but if they can focus on bringing us great handheld games…then perhaps they’ll start pulling off epic home console games again.

        So4 is weak in many levels, but it’s okay in others. I don’t dislike it as much as I see everyone doing so, but it’s not my fav ever :P

    I’m looking forward to more info on this.

    That’s not what I meant. It’s easy now to reclaim your IP (like Darks souls, Radiant historia, Xenosaga etc.) by changing a few things in the name of your game and characters. A lot of RPG creators are doing that to liberate themselves from publishers and Tri-Ace could do it easily without asking for anybody’s permission.
