Report: Wii U 50% more powerful than PS3
by [@salromano] at 12:36 PM EDT, June 13, 2011 .

Wii U, Nintendo’s newly announce high-definition, 1080p console, is more powerful than a PlayStation 3. Fifty percent more powerful, if a report from Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia is to be believed.

“Some of the developers we spoke to indicated to us that the console will have 50% more processing power compared to the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360,” said Bhatia, speaking to IndustryGamers. “This is yet to be confirmed by Nintendo.”

Nintendo did little to prove this, using footage of PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 games during their third-party Wii U game announcement footage. Though, the company did create a quite astonishing Zelda tech demo, dubbed the console’s “HD Experience.” Read our impressions here.

Any new console with decent hardwere will be more powerfull then todays consoles, even the ps3, whice is nothing against my friends 850$ rig, and thats a cheap rig, but a well built one!

I’m sure the Graphics Card is better, or the chip, depending on the way they go, probably integrated chip. Not like the PS3 or 360 are packing 6970 and 580s. I would hope the memory is better, both consoles have low memory. The CPU is where the big question mark is. PS3 with the cell is pretty powerful for a console cpu. I don’t think the rumored triple core cpu on the Nintendo would out perform the cell.

Hey it better be more powerful, it’s a new console. Thats like saying the Xbox 360 is more powerful than the PS2.
What I’m worried about is when Sony & Microsoft come out with there systems nintendo is going to be back to being the weakest system.

until the wii u comes out and show me a game that uses its full abilities, PS3 will remain the best console i have in my opinion withthe ps3 library i have that includes valkyria chronicles,ar tonelico, uncharted, etc, and waiting for FFversus13, tales of graces & xillia.

I don’t think it’s much of a feat for a new system to beat technology that’s half a decade old.

I’d be worried if the Wii U hardware didn’t beat the PS3/360 in every single area.

I’m just waiting for the news item ‘Report: PS4 4000% more powerful than WiiU’ lol. Lol jk, but yea this is good news.

I’m still liking Nintendo’s strategy. Focusing less on power let’s them do a lot of other things, like invest more money into games and also very importantly have a low retail price while still profiting on each console sold. I think it’s a safe strategy, and appropriate for the times. Not simply that ‘oh noes we’re in a recession,’ but also that hardware is at the point where the power needed to make beasty visuals is not so expensive.

It really helps Nintendo differentiate from the competition as well.

Releasing new consoles is more complicated now days.

Why lose money when you can sell something a bit better, that performs just as well as the competition, and make money from it right away. The more complicated and different and new it is, the longer it will take for developers to jump on board. Just look at what happened with Sony and the PS3.

Pretty much, because it wasn’t just like the 360 but a little bit better spec wise, developers freaked out about it. They just wanted to make the game and print it on two types of discs, end of story.

It took time for that thought process to change. Nintendo wants to get those big software titles on a Nintendo system too. So when they next game that prints money is released, they get some of it along with MS and Sony. Rather than sitting by and saying, well…we have this and that!

Software dominates now, and the more ways companies can get that software out to the public, the better.

And, america at the very least, is not full of people who demand top of the line hardware. I mean, look how well Apple is doing! lol…

By the way, I dont think we should applaud a system for what it shoud do.
The Wii U should be more powerful than the PS3, like Adamboy64 said
“I’d be worried if the Wii U hardware didn’t beat the PS3/360 in every single area.”

Thats what it should do, they should feel obligated to give us a better and stronger system.
