Mass Effect 3 will feature a four-player co-op component, according to a Eurogamer report. A source told the site that the mode is a “standalone” component, separate from the single-player campaign, featuring “competitive elements.”
The multiplayer mode is a styled after Gears of War‘s Horde mode, which is a kill-till-you-die affair against waves of enemies, conforming to suggested reports.
A source separate from the latter told the site that BioWare Montreal was creating a multiplayer Mass Effect experience, either as a standalone game or as an additional feature for Mass Effect 3.
At E3 last week, BioWare co-founder Ray Muzyka told the site that they’re “exploring multiplayer in all of our games and all of our franchises,” but “haven’t talked at all about multiplayer in the Mass Effect franchise.” He reaffirmed that “it’s an idea we’re interested in,” but at the moment “we have no comment on that.”
Mass Effect 3 is out on March 6, 2012 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. Read our E3 preview here.
