Grand Theft Auto V is in development for release next year, sources “close” to Rockstar have told GameSpot. The game is reportedly “well underway,” with the final touches such as mini-games currently being applied. The 2012 release was said to be “pretty likely,” and the game’s scale vast.

“It’s the big one,” said the source.

Earlier today, SystemLink discovered the resume of a Rockstar New England employe who “made and put in a mini-game system which is driven by data [and] can be edited on the go” for an unannounced game for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Previous rumors have labelled the game as a Los Angeles-based Grand Theft Auto.

Grand Theft Auto IV, released in April 2008, sold nearly 20 million units worldwide.

I really like GTA IV. I like the engine, graphics, animation, and driving model a lot. I think they did a pretty slick job with the narrative as well. Considering how early the game came out in the generation, it did set the bar pretty high for other titles. I think it was a solid entry. Still though, I thought the world was pretty bland.

I’m still a Rockstar fan through and through though, and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us with GTA V. I really hope they wow us with the type of scale and interactivity, primed for 2012, that San Andreas threw at us way back in 2004.

I can’t even imagine what Rockstar’s got in store for us this time and I’m not trying to. My plan is to sit back and wait for that glorious debut trailer to blow me away :)

    GTA V will be legendary!
