Square Enix trademarks “SE Masterpieces”

Square Enix may be re-releasing their most masterful titles in a single package. The Tokyo-based publisher trademarked the name “SE Masterpieces” in Europe five days ago, on May 11.

The trademark could mean anything. This writer would certainly consider a disc including Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2 and Final Fantasy XII an “SE Masterpiece.” Or the three Kingdom Hearts titles for PS2.

E3 is less than a month away. Stay tuned.

    I’d like to see them release the updated of version of 12 we never got. I could also probably play 10 again, if they added trophy support. As for 10-2…no thanks, I still like to pretend that game never existed.

    People try and complain about how 13 has a predictable storyline, influenced heavily by anime and other trends in Japanese storytelling and culture. I’d say X-2 is just that, personified. And not just that, but for the most part, the influences are some of the worst types of things you find in anime and manga… Like…at least the story in 13 wasn’t a complete throw away aspect of the game, and at least they didn’t have the female cast dressed up like a bunch of buffoons, and at least…I rest my case, thinking about the game even more just gets me upset.

    Translation- X-2 would be the equivalent of Devil May Cry 2, in the Devil May Cry collection. Something that most would never even remove from the case…stupid DMC 2, grumble grumble…

      Story and aesthetic aside, didn’t you at least find the gameplay enjoyable? Look past the flashy dressphere graphics and u got a truckload of awesome classes to try out and max out. That was the redeeming part for me. The on the fly class switching was pretty fun as was most of the battles.

        No hard feelings, if we all agreed things would be boring in this world. I had a hard time playing the game at all, I felt like i was trying to force myself to play the game, because it had Final Fantasy on the cover. I finally realized that I wasn’t getting enjoyment out of playing the game, it was more like a chore. And we play games for entertainment, well most do, and if your not having fun why try and force yourself to keep playing?

          Fair enough. I didn’t enjoy 12 but I forced myself coz of the FF label too XD.

    i don’t think SE masterpieces would include FFs. just because releasing remakes/rereleases of any single ff game would net them more. It’s probably something along the lines of critically acclaimed SE games other than FF/DQ… that’s just my opinion.

    BTW for E3! I hope there’s a new trailer for ff13-2. i’m all hyped up for it. Glad there’s type-0 for the time being… :D

      “SE Masterpieces” might not be a single boxed product. It could be a line of products.

      For example, a Final Fantasy Collection would have the label “SE Masterpieces” up top or on the bottom of the box.

    Hmm, it seems like some kind of “platinum” release thing, ie releasing the biggest sellers in a different package or put together in a pack.

    I would hope for anything FFIX onwards personally!

    The idea of either a FF or KH collection makes me highly excited. Hell, I’d probably buy each game individually. BUT COLLECTION FTW.

    I still hope that one day they will start the remakes 7&8 is all I need.
