Rumor: First Grand Theft Auto V ‘screens’ [Update: fake]

Making for a lively Sunday morning, we have what are rumored to be the first off-screen images of the yet-to-be-announced Grand Theft Auto V.

The images come by way of a poster named ‘GTALEAKER’ on a the Gamer’s Hell forums, who claims he is “in contact” with a Rockstar employee. The said employee purportedly provided him with three off-screen images of the game and revealed its location as “Honolulu, Hawaii.” This would contradict most rumors, which set the game in the Los Angeles, California area.

As always, take this with a large grain of salt.

If anything, E3’s next month, so it won’t be too long before we hear an official announcement from the mouths of Rockstar.

Update 10:58am: As suspected, the whole thing’s a fake. Running a search for “Hawaii sunsets” on Google images brought me to this wallpaper on Open Walls. It’s the exact same image used in the background of the title screen.

Los Angeles, it is, then.

This has to have happened for every main GTA game since III or Vice City… lol.

Every GTA game, from what I remember, has never been leaked like this. The first time we usually see them is through some awesome teasers followed some epic magazine cover.

I still remember GTA SA’s first magazine cover. I think we were in 11th or 12th grade and we were just stunned at how expansive San Andreas was going to be, and it met all of our expectations and then some… it was such an event also, because we never bought game magazines lol.
