New Ninja Gaiden III details

May 25, 2011 / 06:00 PM EDT / (@salromano)

The latest issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine has brought to light new details on Ninja Gaiden III.

The information released to the net is light, but certainly exciting. Ninja Gaiden III will run at 60 frames per second and bring back the blood missing in the toned down Ninja Gaiden Sigma II. And, like the blood, difficulty won’t be toned down for the casual player.

Multiplayer comes in two flavors — cooperative and competitive. At least one mode will support up to 8 players, which we assume is competitive.

In story, the store that past Ninja Gaiden games had you buying upgrades for is no more. Instead, your weapons will upgrade over time. The plot has a greater emphasis on Ryu’s story, and currently, the team has not planned any other playable characters.

In one of the preview’s screenshots, Ryu is seen slicing up foot soldiers on the streets of a dark, rainy city. Another has him climbing a wall, using a dagger as grip. A third shows Ryu running from a giant spider mechanoid.

An extra tidbit, the game ‘may’ feature PlayStation Move support.

Ninja Gaiden III is out next year. It will be playable at this year’s E3. You can bet your ninja blood we’ll have our go at it.

Thanks, NeoGAF.

I hope the story is better…I’d be excited for it turns out to be more story driven.

Yeah the story always seems to be the weak point

Silly phone keypad thing. “I would be excited for this game if it turns out to be more story driven.”

I’m glad you agree King, I was hoping I wasn’t the only one.

I won’t lie, my favorite Tecmo series has always been Monster Rancher, its pretty addictive once you start raising a monster. And no, its not pokemon, your monster has feelings, things it hates, it gets old and dies, runs away, etc.

I would love to see a new version released, I haven’t played the one they finally released for DS though…maybe someday soon.

Super glad they’ve kept it 60 fps! My requests: An entire REBOOT (especially RYU’s design), an actual ‘VERY EASY MODE’ (you know, for mere mortal humans. I don’t want a headache when I game..), JAPANESE VOICE TRACK OPTION, heavy stylization, strong single-player story focus (lots of cutscenes), & mostly asian environments. I’m not down with: multi-player or motion control. In-engine footage / screens please..
