Risen 2: Dark Waters announced

Deep Silver and Piranha Bytes have announced a pirate-themed sequel to Risen, this morning. It’s currently in development at Piranha for “consoles and PC” and scheduled for a TBA release.

Set several years after the first game, Risen 2: Dark Waters is centered around monstrous creatures that have risen from the deep. The hero, as a member of the Inquisition, must stop the chaos caused by these creatures of the sea. Following rumors that the pirates of the southern islands know how to stop them, the player will begin their quest.

The game is set in a “dark and gritty universe” with the most “immersive” features of the original game in-tact. The player will be offered “multiple approaches to every challenge” allowing them to shape the game based on their decisions. Depending on the player’s choices, “new paths, features and additional skills” will be unlocked. The game will also feature a “highly interactive” environment, with a day/night-cycle “affecting countless aspects of the game world.”

While specific platforms weren’t announced (excluding PC), the plural mentioning of “consoles” pretty much guarantees a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 release.

heh, I only just recently played the original Risen come to think of it. I thought it was a fairly underrated game so this news is quite interesting. First shots look good too.

They’re being called “artwork,” despite the fact that they look like in-game shots.
