NGP videos: Uncharted, UI, Hot Shots, and more
January 27, 2011 / 12:40 PM EDT / (@salromano)

You’ve read all about it, now see it in action! Videos of last night’s PlayStation Meeting press conference in Tokyo have come out of Japanese publication, Weekly ASCII.

The first three clips highlight the systems specifications, its user-interface (including multiple home screens), the Uncharted spin-off for the platform, a new Hot Shots Golf title, how reality applies to games (check out the bit around 2:30 in the third part), and much more.

Additionally, a clip of Hideo Kojima’s rendering of Metal Gear Solid 4 on NGP is also available for viewing; the one that enjoys the “same quality as PS3.”

so Sal you are now covering portable gaming news??

  • Kkdog4Sado

    Awesome I can’t wait!!!

Yeah, I’d go ahead and Say Scrawl should cover a little portable gaming here and there. Try it out, if it becomes too much of a burden, drop it.

This is so brilliant! Looks technically superior to anything I had imagined tbh.

As for the portable news idea, I think myself and others mentioned it during the ideas phase of the new design. I say it’s a good idea to cover it a bit whilst the energy surrounding the systems is high. I for one am getting really excited about the NGP already!

This looks amazing. I hope you are going to cover this device Sal and company. It really to me makes the NDS look comparatively old. Love the graphics, love the possibilities of what you can do with it. The virtual window in Hot Shot Golf looked great, and Little Deviants looks awesome! And I am happy it’s backwards compatible, that means I’ll get Final Fantasy Type-0 on this thing. I hope they got a really good security system in place… I don’t want it to suffer the same fate as the PSP. Hackers really destroyed its value.

The videos are missing the Lost Planet 2 scenes rendered in realtime. Also, Call of Duty was announced for it.

As long as they have one or two must-buy launch titles I am getting it day 1.

Well done Sal, this portable deserve to be covered, i hope u keep giving us the latest news of this device, at least until launch day.

Sweet, thanks for the videos, I’ve been looking for a good collection of them.

Really excited for the PSP2! This is what portable hardware horsepower should be at.

There are reasons why people are critical of the products Apple sells, and the prices they sell those products at. They are chronically delaying the progression in portable device hardware with their overpriced, underpowered devices.

P.S. It’s great to hear Kaz Hirai speak Japanese.

Btw, I think we have to credit Kaz Hirai for this announcement.

As the new president of Sony Computer Entertainment, it is by his leadership which has led to Sony’s fantastic new announcement.

Much praise to the new president. I think he is doing an excellent job, and I think the Playstation brand is in the best hands.

I’ve had many discussions with other Playstation fanatic friends, and we all agree Kaz Hirai is the person to steer today’s Sony CE in the right direction.

Thanks for the vids Sal and great job covering this. Like everyone else keeps asking, does this mean you’re officially covering handhelds?

Uncharted on the go, and looking that good?! I’m pretty much sold.

The more I see about this system (which is all over the web) the more I want it. I just hope it’s not $300. The PSPGo was way overpriced and with the 3DS Sony has to be careful not to price themselves out of the party. If it’s more than $250 they’ll have a hard time selling a handheld that’s the same price as a PS3.

I think $300 would be the max price. I’m already putting money aside, for it. Save up a few dollars every week specifically for the system and you should be fine.

As for whether or not we’re officially covering the system — I’m testing it out. We’ll see how it goes.
