Harmonix sold to Columbus Nova
by [@salromano] at 01:01 PM EDT, December 23, 2010 .

Viacom has sold off Rock Band and Dance Central creators, Harmonix Music Systems. The buyer? Columbus Nova, an investment management firm founded in 2000. The purchase allows Harmonix to return to their roots as independent developers.

Viacom had originally announced its intention to sell Harmonix in early November.

In a statement on the Rock Band forums, Harmonix developer John Drake said that they will continue to support Rock Band and Dance Central with downloadable content, despite the sale. He also mentioned “some unannounced projects” in the works that should get us “pumped” once Harmonix is able to break their silence.

We wish Harmonix the best of luck under their new parent company. We can’t wait to see what they’re cooking up.

Glad to hear Harmonix is safe and sound. Now can we get Amplitude 2?!
