by [@salromano] at 11:48 PM EDT, November 16, 2010 .

Atari’s announced today that a remake of its 1981 Atari 2600 classic, Yars’ Revenge, is in development at Killspace Entertainment. The reboot, now with a Japanese influence, is set to hit PlayStation Network, Xbox LIVE Arcade and PC in early 2011.

Yars’ Revenge puts player in the role of a nameless Yar previously brainwashed by the Qotile empire and now out for revenge on those responsible. It promises “massive aerial battles, multiple endings and local support for two player co-op.”

Big Download obtained an exclusive interview on the game, where Atari producer Michael Fahrny talks about the game’s Japanese art style, why Killspace was assigned developer, what type of weapons will be utilized, how two-player co-op works, and more.

An intriguing teaser trailer was released alongside the announcement. However, it doesn’t really clear up confusions on exactly how the game plays. Check it out below.

Pretty much anything with local co-op multiplayer interests me. I love local co-op in games.

One I’ll want to keep an eye out for.

You got the title wrong, it’s “Lady Gaga the Game, Episode 1: Yar’s Revenge”.

I’m glad they got the real Lady Gaga to play Yar. I can’t wait for “Lady Gaga the Game, Episode 2: Robotron 2084.”
