Yamauchi: GT6 in production; GT5 release date “soon”
by [@salromano] at 11:12 AM EDT, November 4, 2010 .

While Gran Turismo 5 is still dateless, we do know that it’ll most likely release by the holidays. The game’s already gone gold and discs are in the manufacturing process. But what about the next game in the Gran Turismo franchise?

Too early to be talking about it, you say? Think again.

At SEMA 2010 in Las Vegas, Autoweek asked franchise creator Kazunori Yamauchi whether or not development was underway on the next Gran Turismo, presumably Gran Turismo 6, to which Yamauchi responded: “Yeah.”

Apparently, this year’s winner for best car in show will be included in Gran Turismo 6, as it’s too late now for Gran Turismo 5 (although, downloadable content is always an option).

Finally, Yamauchi confirms that a Gran Turismo 5 release date announcement should happen “sometime soon”. When asked if it’ll still arrive by the holidays, he responded: “I think so.”

Keep your fingers crossed.

I read.. a couple of years ago, that he was (maybe Polyphony Digital) thinking about moving on to develop for PC instead. However, that couldn’t be right – as they are an internal developer for Sony.

Them starting on GT6 isn’t a great surprise, but people might not want to hear it after all the delays of GT5. I wonder if it will be out in the PS3′s lifetime or whether it’ll be a ‘launch title’ for the PS4.
