Metal Gear Solid: Rising – assumed by many to be released next year – is due to hit store shelves in 2012, a source has told Kotaku.
Developed by Kojima Productions and published by Konami, the multiplatform title will feature Raiden – a protagonist of 2002’s Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. He later appeared in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, released for PlayStation 3 in April 2008.
Hideo Kojima — director and writer of previous titles in the seminal series — Kenichiro Imaizumi and Shigenobu Matsuyama are producing the game, with Mineshi Kimura as director.
The game, now focused on ‘Lightning Bolt Action’ rather than Metal Gear Solid‘s original ‘Tactical Espionage Action’, was debuted at E3 in the summer of 2009.
We will contact Konami for details. Stay tuned.

This wouldn’t surprise me actually, altough a 2012 release seems a LONG way away!
Well, when you think about it, BioShock Infinite is set for 2012, as well. Good games take time!
not surprising. i think this is a good opportunity to come up with crazy boss fights. im excited how will will defeat a boss, by slicing them or such.
This and Street Fighter X Tekken(along with Tekken X Street FIghter) will be released in 2012. im glad though, since it just shows you that there still alot of years ahead for this gen.
Most of 2011 is booked for me anyways.
Hopefully 2011 will be a relief for my wallet. I’m wanting to get the Fender guitar that is compatible with Rock Band 3, Rage, NeverDead, Dragon Age II, Nintendo 3DS, Crysis 2, Bulletstorm, and Gears of War 3, to name a few. Yes I do usually get a lot of games each year. I thought 2008 would be the year I spent the biggest ammount on video games and it turns out it was 2009 instead. Hopefully there won’t be a month like October this year where everything good that comes out is released on the same day. At least Kojima is taking his time with this one unlike other developers that just put a game out without any beta testing.
