Sony’s announced today that it’s partnered-up with video game retailer, GameStop, to sell downloadable content typically released on PlayStation Network in-store and online through the retailer’s website.

The PlayStation manufacturer has already been offering PlayStation Network goodies through Amazon. GameStop’s inclusion gives gamers more of a choice where to shop.

Currently, downloadable content is only being sold in select GameStop stores, but will grow to reach over 4,400 retail stores throughout the rest of the month.

“We are always looking for new ways PlayStation Network users can expand, extend and enhance their overall entertainment experience,” said Tim Bender, senior vice president of sales, Sony Computer Entertainment America. “Being able to purchase downloadable digital content at retail provides yet another convenient purchasing option for gamers.”

Good for gamers who don’t have a credit card, eh?

So.. how does this work exactly? Do you go and purchase a digital item at retail.. and you get a card with a redeemable code on it.. and then enter that code in the ‘Playstation Store’?
