DirecTV subscribers are no longer able to watch Adam Sessler and company on TV’s only gaming network, G4. The satellite provider’s announced today that they’ve dropped the network and have no plans to make it available again to subscribers.
“At this time we are no longer negotiating and we have no plans to put G4 back up,” a DirecTV rep said in an e-mail to Entertainment Weekly. “We are constantly evaluating our lineup in a new world where programming costs continue to rise at significant rates. Since G4 is among the lowest rated networks based on the latest Nielsen data, we decided that it made sense to focus on preserving programming that is more relevant to our larger customer base.”
G4 had their own response to issue: “We have been trying to engage DirecTV in fair and reasonable discussions to continue to carry G4. G4 offered DirecTV the same basic deal we have had for the past three years. However they still plan to drop the network and deny G4 fans the only network that focuses on the popular gaming lifestyle.”
G4 is responsible for shows such as X-Play and Attack of the Show! While great, I must admit that the network has strayed itself miles from its earlier days. I miss Pulse and Filter.
Other than AOTS and X-Play the only thing G4TV was good for was COPS or Cheaters marathons.
Good news is that they post most everything on their website and some of the best stuff like Feedback and Sessler’s Soapbox aren’t televised.
Not sure how much ad revenue they’ll lose because of this but since they’re owned by Comcast they probably won’t be dropped unless, of course, Comcast doesn’t see a good ROI on their investment. Then the entire channel could go away unless they can find a way to improve.
I’m a little sad to lose AOTS (very funny and informative) but ever since Olivia left it just hasn’t been the same and it doesn’t appear that she’ll ever come back. She’s been gone for about 6 months and while they won’t drop her from the opening credits or on the show’s web page there’s almost no way she’ll ever come back.

Hate to say it but I think G4 rates low because its programming is bad. Attack of the Show is horrible,and the constant sexual innuendos just cheapens the show. I love gaming, but never watch G4 even though I have it on cable. It’s not just the sex stuff though, I just think it’s bad all around and I think the majority agrees (but I respect your opinion incredibilistic though I can’t believe you actually like Cheaters marathons!).
They need to make a gaming show that’s a bit more professionally entertaining to appeal to a wider audience. Gametrailer’s show is the best one out there but it’s far from perfect.
damn what the hell happened to G4? i remeber shows like cheats,x-play(good ones) and cinemablend, not cops shitty marathon that keeps plaguing the network. countries like japan and korea broadcast tournaments LIVE on tv and nationwide. too bad it’s not the same in most countries.
