Diablo team seeking console developers
by [@salromano] at 06:25 PM EDT, November 15, 2010 .

Blizzard Entertainment, the fine folks behind World of Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo, are “seeking an experienced engineer to lead console development on the Diablo team,” according to a recent job listing.

Interesting. The Diablo team is currently hard at work on Diablo III, scheduled to launch on PC whenever it’s done. Even more interesting is that Blizzard’s latest console game was the original Diablo on PlayStation in 1998, as they’re primarily a PC-based studio.

Is Diablo III is a shoe-in for a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 release? Perhaps not.

“We’re exploring a Diablo-related concept for consoles and are currently looking to fill a few senior console-related positions on the Diablo III team,” reads a post made today on the Diablo III community site. “As we’ve said in the past, with proper care the gameplay could suit the console platform, and we’re interested in seeing what talent out there might be interested in such a project.”

Let’s hope they get it started, then.

Thanks, Gamasutra.

I don’t see why not. If they have no issues with Microsoft and restrictions, it would be a no brainier move. Make more money, and make it longer.

I hope they do decide to work on console versions. At the current speed they will probably release it at the earliest 2012.

They can take their time. I want Diablo III to be as memorable as its predecessor and make them proud. :)
